LowkeyCruiser Posted February 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2005 Anyone been on the Atlantis submarine reef excursion? It looks like a unique experience, so we signed up through Celebrity for Feb. 8 (off Constellation). Hope we made a good decision!

sammynobrains Posted February 4, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2005 We did the Atlantis in St. Thomas after my Uncle raved about it. I have to admit I was a little disappointed. If you're a diver or an avid snorkeler, it's probably not worth the money. But, if you don't spend a lot of time under water, you're going to love it. Either way, I hope you have fun. LowkeyCruiser Posted February 4, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted February 4, 2005 We snorkel and, yes, the submarine thing is a bit gimmicky, but what the heck it will be an experience! Not that I am a worrywort, but one has to wonder what good life jackets would be if the the vessel crashed into a reef... :D
Karencruiser43 Posted February 4, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2005 I did this a few years ago, thought it was o.k, but my daughter and I got very motion sick. I know this doesn't happen to everyone, but thought I would let you know!
Joslynn Posted February 17, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2005 My husband and I did the Atlantis Sub in Barbados back in 2000. They take you by boat out from shore. Shortly thereafter the sub comes to the surface for boarding. We were a bit nervouse at this point. The sub looks soemthing like a giant hot dog. I cannot remember how many it sat but the views were great nomatter where you took your seat. Everyone has there own very large porthole to look out from...you sit back to back with the porthole a foot in front of you. There is emergency oxygen tanks and such located under your seat. At both ends of the sub are altimeters so you can see exactly how deap you are at all times. I was a bit nervous as we first started our decent...It darker the deaper you go...then suddenly as you near the bottom it gets light again...the sun reflects off the bottom. At 150ft we could see at least 100 ft. It was Awesome! Fish everywhere...they feed them somehow. A ship wreck in the distance and a large wall. Well worth it!
