Cruising Mom O'4 Posted June 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2010 We are sailing on June 21st on the Ecstasy out of Galveston to Progresso and Cozumel... I have been assuming it would be balmy, warm to hot, summer weather...which is 85 degrees at night in Texas where I live. But I don't know about the days at sea... does it get chilly at night? Should I pack a sweater or some warmer clothes? Any experience would be appreciated...
schmeed Posted June 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2010 It can get cool at night in the Caribbean...especially on deck if it's windy. My wife always takes a sweater or sweatshirt. You won't be disappointed if you bring it...
Lidolounger Posted June 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2010 Yes, definintely bring something to wear in the dinning rooms and a sweatshirt too for out on deck in the evenings. It gets really windy! Enjoy your cruise;)
Biffer1997 Posted June 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2010 I also find some of the public areas on the ship (dining room) to be very chilly--I have a lightweight sweater packed.
parrotthead Posted June 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2010 If you chill easily then yes, pack a light sweater or what have you, and if you need it youll have it, if not, no harm done... That being said: I have NEVER been cold on a cruise...even at night in Alaska. (I am very warm natured--freeze my family out at home) Enjoy! Angeleyes1382 Posted June 12, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2010 I took a cute black wrap that went with everything from jeans to formal wear. It also didn't take much room in the luggage. I definitely used it quite a bit. In the dining room, the shows, and sometimes in the evening on the outside decks.
parrotthead Posted June 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2010 They also sell those 'wraps' in the $10 store on board. so if you do need something else there is always that. :) Remember Coz and Progresso are farther South, so they will likely (in my experience) be warmer in general. (even when we cruise in the Winter, its still warmish) :) ~~BTW: We LOVE the Ecstasy...she is our Favorite ship!~~ (as you can probably tell by my sig)

(I am very warm natured--freeze my family out at home) Enjoy! Okay... so I live in Austin and anything under 75 is cold for me. We went on the Paradise for a Baja cruise in April a couple years ago and it was in the 50s and 60s... I froze my rear off b/c that's winter weather here and it hadn't occurred to me that it might be cold in Mexico or at sea!? (duh! I guess) I purposely picked this cruise for the end of June and figured the Caribbean would be warm (hot) like the Texas Coast.. maybe warmer... Most of what I had planned to pack is sleeveless, sundress type of stuff... I've got a couple light weight sweaters, but if it's going to be lower than about 70 I need to rethink my packing... so.. can anyone give me numbers on how cold is "chilly"??... if it's in the 50s-60s like Baja Mexico, I'll need another suitcase just for the jackets for myself, DH and the 4 kids. Thanks!!!
jacque122 Posted June 13, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 13, 2010 We just got back off of the 4 day out of Galveston and I had to buy a hoodie in the Carnival store because I was freezing. It rained both of our sea days and it was cold because they run the ac full blast. Nothing like wearing a hoodie with your formal!
lillian marie Posted June 13, 2010 #10 Share Posted June 13, 2010 I find the ship can get cold with super air conditioning. I wear a sweater in the dining room on some nights.
scooterdoxie Posted June 13, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 13, 2010 I will fully admit that I am cold natured. However, several "hot" people that I travel with find the ships to be cold at times, especially the dining rooms, lounges, on deck at night, and the casino. The cabin you can regulate somewhat on the newer ships. I don't dare go without light jackets, maybe a pair of jeans, some slacks for dinners and I usually take long sleeve/3/4 sleeve formals. My last 2 cruises have been in Oct and Nov, forcing us to wear long pants coming and going due to temps at home and boy did those long pants get used multiple times by everyone during the cruise. I go prepared now for all weather.

choclitsnda Posted June 13, 2010 #15 Share Posted June 13, 2010 It usually takes a lot for me to get cold, but seems like I always get cold in the dining room & theater, so I make sure to pack a light sweater/wrap.

proudpatriot07 Posted June 14, 2010 #17 Share Posted June 14, 2010 I always wore a hoodie in the dining room. I was freezing if I didn't. Granted I'm also severely anemic right now and just came back from the cruise, so my perception of cold might be a little off, but I saw others doing it too and people at the table saying it was chilly.
