Will I need a sweater?

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on June 21st on the Ecstasy out of Galveston to Progresso and Cozumel... I have been assuming it would be balmy, warm to hot, summer weather...which is 85 degrees at night in Texas where I live. But I don't know about the days at sea... does it get chilly at night? Should I pack a sweater or some warmer clothes? Any experience would be appreciated...

If you chill easily then yes, pack a light sweater or what have you, and if you need it youll have it, if not, no harm done...

That being said:

I have NEVER been cold on a cruise...even at night in Alaska.

(I am very warm natured--freeze my family out at home)

Enjoy!

I took a cute black wrap that went with everything from jeans to formal wear. It also didn't take much room in the luggage. I definitely used it quite a bit. In the dining room, the shows, and sometimes in the evening on the outside decks.

They also sell those 'wraps' in the $10 store on board.

so if you do need something else there is always that.

:) Remember Coz and Progresso are farther South, so they will likely (in my experience) be warmer in general.

(even when we cruise in the Winter, its still warmish)

:)

~~BTW: We LOVE the Ecstasy...she is our Favorite ship!~~

(as you can probably tell by my sig)

Okay... so I live in Austin and anything under 75 is cold for me. We went on the Paradise for a Baja cruise in April a couple years ago and it was in the 50s and 60s... I froze my rear off b/c that's winter weather here and it hadn't occurred to me that it might be cold in Mexico or at sea!? (duh! I guess) I purposely picked this cruise for the end of June and figured the

Caribbean would be warm (hot) like the Texas Coast.. maybe warmer...

Most of what I had planned to pack is sleeveless, sundress type of stuff... I've got a couple light weight sweaters, but if it's going to be lower than about 70 I need to rethink my packing...

so.. can anyone give me numbers on how cold is "chilly"??... if it's in the 50s-60s like Baja Mexico, I'll need another suitcase just for the jackets for myself, DH and the 4 kids.

Thanks!!!

We just got back off of the 4 day out of Galveston and I had to buy a hoodie in the Carnival store because I was freezing. It rained both of our sea days and it was cold because they run the ac full blast. Nothing like wearing a hoodie with your formal!

I will fully admit that I am cold natured. However, several "hot" people that I travel with find the ships to be cold at times, especially the dining rooms, lounges, on deck at night, and the casino. The cabin you can regulate somewhat on the newer ships. I don't dare go without light jackets, maybe a pair of jeans, some slacks for dinners and I usually take long sleeve/3/4 sleeve formals. My last 2 cruises have been in Oct and Nov, forcing us to wear long pants coming and going due to temps at home and boy did those long pants get used multiple times by everyone during the cruise. I go prepared now for all weather.

Here's a link that gives current conditions. http://jacksonville.justweather.com/local/MXQR0074/

You can search for other locations by entering city, country (cozumel, mexico) in the search box.

Hope this helps. I get cold very easily and hate getting caught like that. :)

I always wore a hoodie in the dining room. I was freezing if I didn't. Granted I'm also severely anemic right now and just came back from the cruise, so my perception of cold might be a little off, but I saw others doing it too and people at the table saying it was chilly.
