cruising twosome Posted June 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2010 We're sailing on the NCL Star in 1/11 and wondering if anyone has done some scuba or snorkeling trips during the Panama Canal cruise. Stops are Cartagena, Puntarenas, Huatulco, Cabo or Acapulco. Thanks. B
kestrel Posted June 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2010 We snorkeled in Huatulco. It was fine, but not great. There is no need for you to book shore excursion or private tour. After you walk off the cruise ship, there will be lots of local people offering to take you on a boat ride. I don't think there are good snorkeling spots in Puntareas or other Costa Rica ports. The best snorkeling place during my Panama Canal cruise was in Montego Bay, Jamaica. We took the Coral See excursion through Princess. It was just fantastic! mcmarya Posted June 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2010 We snorkeled off La Roqueta island during our Acapulco stop. The water wasn't that clear but we did see some fish. You could probably see a few fish at Caleta or Caletilla beach--we could see some from the pier where we caught a water taxi. Better snorkeling was found at Cabo off Lover's beach, but you do have to be careful of boats there.
