Meyer2 Posted July 1, 2010 #26 Share Posted July 1, 2010 kwbond- That's for updating. Glad you & everyone are making the best of it, with good attitudes. I know it's crazy though I'm sure. And I know you can't predict the weather, but I know it's not easy for those waiting to board, hang in there.

232271 Posted July 1, 2010 #28 Share Posted July 1, 2010 My freind is driving around Galveston, and decided to go ask at the pier since there was not any definate answers, she was told they gave the luggage back so people can change or swim or get medications if needed, but that it didnt mean they might not still come in. The pilot made it on the ship they are waiting for the port to open back up now. She was told to come back at 4 pm or later, but she could leave her luggage now if she wanted. I will post more if I hear from her again.
Tightlinerods Posted July 1, 2010 #29 Share Posted July 1, 2010 They do have a small window of oppertunity but port traffic is not based on desire. They could have the pilot on board but be 6-10 ships out... Good luck everybody... John
msunrullieone Posted July 1, 2010 #30 Share Posted July 1, 2010 On the bright side, we had always said we wanted to explore Galveston someday! No time like the present. We're going to check back around 4 also, as that seems to be the mantra we keep hearing. People we've met waiting to board also have seemed pretty calm and polite. There's always one in every crowd though! :)

duchessuta Posted July 1, 2010 #35 Share Posted July 1, 2010 Pardon my ignorance....but what do you mean when you say "pilot boarding"? I know there are usually boats that say "Pilot" that guide the ships in and out of ports. Is that what y'all are talking about?
flynnsport Posted July 1, 2010 #36 Share Posted July 1, 2010 handing out papers @ the port....cruise cancelled till tomorrow & only 25 dollar credit! that's terrible considering the additional expenses ya'll will now have to incur.

Yes, an earlier post said the pilot had actually boarded the boat...so I was just wondering if he was stuck if they boat isn't coming in tonight. flynnsport Posted July 1, 2010 #40 Share Posted July 1, 2010 July 1, 2010 – 4:30PM EST. We continue to closely monitor the effects of Tropical Storm Alex. The following ships are experiencing delays or deviations due to rough weather. Due to adverse weather conditions, the Carnival Ecstasy will not be able to come into Galveston today. The cruise will now be changed to a 3 day cruise to nowhere and guests should arrive at the terminal at 2pm on Friday, July 2nd. Guests that sail on the new 3 day cruise will receive a 25% refund of their cruise fare along with a 25% discount on a future 3 to 5 day cruise departing prior to April 30, 2012 as well as a $25 per person on board credit as a reimbursement for the Cozumel government taxes and fees. If your sailing is not mentioned in the update above it is operating as planned.

okwriter Posted July 1, 2010 #42 Share Posted July 1, 2010 I would be happy with what Carnival offered. I mean, I'd hate to have the cruise cut short if I was waiting to board, but I would be happy if I was already on board and getting an extra night! Are they far enough out that the casino is open? lady_cruiser Posted July 1, 2010 #43 Share Posted July 1, 2010 that's terrible considering the additional expenses ya'll will now have to incur. Considering that when fog had both the Conquest and the Voyager stuck in Galveston for a couple of days several months ago and RCL only gave their passengers the option of leaving the ship or staying on-board with no OBC I think that Carnival is being generous. 25% refund and 25% future cruise credit comes to 50% BTW - I'm a card carrying L2R Fan (Loyal to Royal)

lady_cruiser Posted July 1, 2010 #49 Share Posted July 1, 2010 One more thing I have to say then I'll shut-up :p (that'll be the day), In 2005 when Hurrican Rita closed the Port of Galveston we were on our first cruise on the Conquest. We stayed two extra days at sea, visited an extra port of call (Costa Maya) and had all phone lines opened, free of charge. Carnival could have charged us for two extra days of meals, phone calls, government taxes and an extra port fee but they didn't. They ate the cost. The same thing is happening here. I know that some folks are getting the short end of the stick, so to speak, but the same thing might happen to you. You might be the ones who will have to spend an extra day or two on the ship and all these extras won't cost you anything . So for all of you who might have a negative comment or two think twice before saying anything here. Because the good side of this might be on your side one day and you will be getting the benefits. AND for all of you who should be sailing away right now but aren't and is showing a great attitude all I can say is that you are a great example to your children. Because you are showing them how to handle things in a positive way. A+ to all of you.
scchasgal Posted July 1, 2010 #50 Share Posted July 1, 2010 Pardon my ignorance....but what do you mean when you say "pilot boarding"? I know there are usually boats that say "Pilot" that guide the ships in and out of ports. Is that what y'all are talking about? One of the pilots on the boat you have seen that says pilot boards the ship when coming and going from port. The pilot boat is not guiding it is travelling alongside the ship to pick the pilot back up once they are cleared from a certain distance from port. I have some interesting pics of the pilot getting off the ship while underway. Next cruise you take watch the pilot boat and see what side it pulls up to the ship and watch the pilot get off your ship and back onto his boat all while moving
