we are going to be in Nassau next week on The Carnival Pride. We are doing an excursion to Atlantis aquarium during the day and were wondering if it is safe to go to the public beach( junkanoo) after dinner probably about 7 pm. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it. All the restroom, concessions etc are closed and chairs chained up. It's pretty deserted after 5/5:30pm.

Swimming, in general, is not recommended in the evening hours.. we do have sharks in the area that feed near the shoreline at dusk.

Although this particular beach is not in open water.. It's just not a good idea.

Thanks Scubagirrl, Good to know about the sharks. Is the fort near the cruise peir open after 6:00 and would that be safe for families then. or is it better to go their earlier in the day?

Sorry to say, nearly everything, except restaurants and clubs are closed up by 6pm... and quite frankly, get a bit derlick. I wouldn't suggest walking around the forts in the evening.

Marina Village (atlantis) shops are still open, the Cloisters on Paradise island are safe and open to the public as well.

Stupid Questions, can you see the sharks at dusk that feed?

Is it safe to walk around at night, or no?

Can u see the sharks? Not likely.. Occasionally you can see them.. even during the day.. lifeguards will get you out of the water.. jet ski boys will run off the sharks and then everyone is back in the water..

these sharks aren't looking for people food.. if they bite.. it's because they mistake people for thier own food.

That's what makes dawn and dusk dangerous.. they don't see very well.

It's safe to walk around the lighted area of your hotel and vicinity. Not wise to walk the beach after dark, or walk around downtown. Stay near others.
