Turtles?

We snorkled with green sea turtles in Barbados last summer on a So. Caribbean cruise. I am wondering if there are any islands that may be an eastern iten. cruise that might have opportunities to snorkel with turtles. Either private or cruise sponsored excursion.

Thank you!

I am hoping for a cruise that includes Puerto Rico, St Thomas, Antigua, Tortola, and maybe Nassau. I know green turtles/sea turtles inhabit many areas of the Caribbean, but I am looking for a possible excursion/snorkeling tour that focus on them. I will have two teens, ages 18 and 15 with me. The tours seem to be more plentiful in the So. Carib though

I'm not aware of any S. Carb. trips offering "Turtle Encounters" as at Barbados.

However, You will see a number of turtles at Buck Island just off the coast from St Thomas. Jolly Mon is one of the operators who visits Buck Island.

The snorkeling is so much better at St John it overwrites any turtle sightings. Last visit I went with Rumbaba. Capt Bobby runs an excellent full day trip with no more than six to eight snorkelers on board.

There are a number of good operators at St Thomas.:

The teens should love swimming with the sharks at Nassau:

Nassau: “Snorkel Bahamas Adventure” is a 5-½ hour trip operated by Stuart’s Cove. The boat trip is @ three hours, and visits Schoolhouse Reef, the spectacular Golden Key Reef and finally a “swim with the sharks” at ‘The Wreck of the Bahama Mama’. I have never before witnessed such a number and variety of fish as at Golden Key. There are never-ending fish, large and small, singly and in large schools. The floor is decorated with huge, magnificent coral formations of all shapes and sizes. While there, a shark cruised past our group. He obviously thought this was his ocean and didn’t know, nor care, that we weren’t scheduled for a shark encounter until after Golden Key. Surprisingly, getting in with a dozen or so sharks is not frightening. I suspect we were too caught up with their grace and magnificence to be scared. The fact that the boat captain hadn’t lost a diver in twelve years was also encouraging. This is a five star, gold medallion, prime trip, not to be missed!

Wow! So much information - many thanks. We actually snorkeled at Buck Island last year. We didn't see turtles, but saw lots of other great marine life. The sharks are definitely something to consider. Hmmm...back to planning!
