cherylu Posted July 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2010 Has anyone ever tried snorkeling in Alaska? There is a snorkeling excursion offered in Ketchikan and I heard that it is great. Apparently you see sealife that you don't encounter on the usual snorkeling trips in warmer waters. They give you thick wet suits and the water temp is about 65 degrees. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this or has any insight.

cruiser113 Posted July 18, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2010 We did this last yr on Princess. Sailing in Sept. The tour group is the absolute best. You drive to the shop and they have two tents inside. One for females and one for males. You don the wet suits and take the rest of your gear and drive to the site. You wear a total wet suit. Everything is covered except for parts of your face. You have gloves and feet things that you put on before your fins. As you submerge into the water your wet suit takes on the water and converts it to body temp. It was quite and experience. You never feel cold and you see amazing things that are key to Alaska. We saw purple star fish. You really get to interact with the enviornment. Groups are usually small and you have two guides. One dives and brings up really cool ocean creatures and one stays with you and leads the group. If you have any more questions , feel free to ask. Would do it again.
