texas2fl Posted August 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2010 Is there a better time of the year to cave tube because there is more water running through the caves? We will be there in March. Thanks!!
Zyzygy Posted August 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2010 a few years ago and there was way too much water. One guy almost got pulled into the underground waterfall*, and it was difficult to ford the stream to reach the put-in place. As long as there is enough flow to keep from constantly grounding on rocks, that would be better than the near-flooding conditions we encountered. We still thought the whole experience was a blast, however. The outside cloud cover made it especially dark inside the cave, and that was fun. *There is a place near the end of the cave where the stream forks. To the left is the surface current, which the tubers follow out of the cave. To the right is an underground waterfall which leads to no readily visible exhibit. The tour guides urge you to stay to the left at that point. One joker didn't listen, however, and almost got swept over the waterfall and deeper into the cave.
