What to do from 5pm til Midnight

Looking for suggestions on what to do between 5pm and Midnight in San Juan. My Wife and will be sailing of the Carnival Victory 9/11 and our first stop will be San Juan from 5pm - Midnight.

It seems with the late port time, most of the sight seeing places will be closing or already closed.

We kinda wanted to stay from the Major Touristy areas like Senor frogs. My wife likes to dance, and we both enjoy bar hopping.

Any suggestions to getting the most out of the night life from San Juan?

Thanks in advance,

Steen

Are you in port on a Tuesday? If Yes, head up to San Cristobal fort. The fort closes at 6pm, but on Tuesdays they host the LeLoLai program - traditional PR music and dance program.

The area down by the ships (along Paseo de la Princesa) should be busy with local artisans and it's also a great place to wander even at night.

Plenty of lively restaurants (forum rules state I can't really name them as I'm a local)

You'll find plenty to do and enjoy :o)

Steen- there is a restaurant/club that offers salsa lessons (free ) and live music for dancing.

But most of the real clubs aren't really hoping mid week or until after 11pm. But the bars will be open.....walk around and check them out. There are a few neat ones up Cristo and on Calle Sebastian.

Everything should be open as usual. At night, besides just walking around OSJ, seeing the LeLoLai show, and enjoying the great Christmas lights too, you could do a BioBay tour, our zipline at night, there is a new food tour, play in the casinos, eat, drink, dance and be merry at the bars and restaurants. There may even be a baseball game close by you can attend.

What do you like to do in port at night?

We don't drink.

What do you do? I realize a night port isn't the best, but that is what the cruise line decided. Let's make the best of it.

Coqui2007 and I gave a list of possibilities...... nothing appeals to you?

There is also shopping at Plaza Las Americas (a taxi ride away).

There area few guided night walking tours of OSJ, there is live jazz at a local restaurant (not far from the pier), and depending on the night of the week, there are dance shows and live music. There are usually craft vendors set up and there are horse and carriage rides and if you get there before 7pm, you could reserve a Segway tour.

Dannish- everything should be open as usual was for you on Dec 28th.

The horse and carriages are available whenever the cruise ships are in port. There are 3 routes around the old city....

If you do a google search for "horse carriage old san juan" you will find info.

Thank you for the info.....this is just what we want:). Now all we have to find a good restaurant..can you help us with this?

Thank you for taking the time to post. Our plane doesn't arrive until 4 PM so by the time we get checked into the Sheraton Old San Juan I don't know what we will feel like doing after a long travel day.

We are thinking about having dinner at Barrachina's & seeing the show there. I understand you have to make reservations for the 7:30 show, correct? Is that a good place to go? How long does it usually take? We might try to do the horse & carriage ride afterwards. We also love to dance!

We have been to San Juan but it was a long time ago & we were just there for a day off a cruiseship so we want to explore more this time but we are only staying one night pre-cruise. We will definitely go to the forts.

We would love to do the Biobay tour but I don't think we will have time. We have also thought about the Segways (we did segways in DC & had a blast). Do you have to make reservations for the 45 minute tour? We are not sure we want to get up early on Sunday & how the weather will be so I don't know if we want to book it now. The Segways get great reviews but we are doing so many excursions on the port intensive Victory I am not sure we want to spend $84 for 2 for $45 minutes.

I wish we had planned on staying an extra night. San Juan is beautiful & we can't wait to get there!

Thanks,

Juli

This place sounds neat....right downtown..........http://www.thelatinroots.com/

Thanks so much for the link to Latin Roots. We were wondering what to do at night and this place sounds great. We're in OSJ from 4 to 11:30PM and wanted to have dinner and some dancing. Have you heard anything about their food? The menu looks really good.

We have been to OSJ many times just not at night and we are really looking forward to the nightlife. So thanx again for the link

November can't get here fast enough:D

Liz
