Couples Massage...On Ship or at Port??

We will be on the Soltice in the Western Carribean and would like to do a couples massage. We are looking at the Sante Wellness Spa. We may also just want to visit the spa on the ship. Any suggestions? Any suggestions about excursions would also be great.

I wish I could answer your question definitively, but we have had limited experience, and on a different cruise line. On our first cruise for our 25th anniversary, with Princess, we opted for the couples massage offered on the ship. They had an open-air cabana (tent, really) on the top deck, all the way forward, and the massage (or MAH-saghe, as my British masseuse pronounced it) was very relaxing and seemed to go on forever-- in reality, it was about 30 minutes. Keep in mind this was Princess, not Celebrity, and I don't have much experience with massage in the first place.

Suggestions for shorex depends on your itinerary.

What does one wear or not wear durning a couple message?

We changed into robes prior to being escorted to the cabana, then after introductions, the masseuses (both female) asked us to remove the robes and lie face down on the tables and cover ourselves with a towel, excusing themselves while we did this. I had opted to wear swim trunks. Never having had a massage before, DW went au naturel, thinking a bathing suit would interfere too much, and apologized to her masseuse, explaining she didn't know if this was appropriate or not. The masseuse assured her that it was perfectly acceptable. During my massage, the masseuse worked her fingers under the top of my trunks, but just to get to the base of the spine. Nothing improper. I have a feeling she would have preferred not to have had the trunks in the way, but it was not a huge impediment.

My DW will wear bikini bottoms. I have the massage sans bottoms. You can ask the masseuse which clothes or how many clothes to remove as I did. She said she didn't care. :D

We were at Sante on the 18th. The property is beautiful, Leon and Angela are wonderfully accommodating and their prices are way better than the ship's spa. We were there with two other couples that day and while I got 90-minute hot rock massage ($105 I think) my hubby did a bit of snorkeling and used their dipping pool....he's not one for massages. We met afterward for a lovely lunch on the veranda, with about a dozen beautiful hummungbirds at the feeders feet away. The other two couples did have couples massages I believe.

It was a highlight of our trip.

Enjoy your cruise!

I go all natural, as per masseuse's request. I have had massages all over the world and going natural under the towel is very common. In fact, in the beginning I was quite shy because I alway wear bottoms under the blanket in Canada/U.S., but in Europe, there is no modesty... really! ;)

As for the question whether have a couples massage on board or in port... I say both! DH and I always treat ourselves to two massage each cruise! We gives ourselves one week a year to relax and get pampered and by golly we're going to relax and get pampered! :D

Very true... you will save $$ in port.
