Well Victory Lover, what are you thinking...:confused:

Are you two staying on our Jan 23 on Victory?

We are debating. Right now, we're thinking of staying...last night leaving...Tomorrow...not sure which way we'll be leaning ;)

My husband was wanting all 3,000 people to boycott all drinks on the day at sea...lol...I'm not really sure that would work....lol. He was soooooo looking forward to Dominica.

There is no onther cruise without a sea day, in fact last time I checked every other cruise in every other line has at least 2 sea days.

How about this one...

http://www.princess.com/find/itineraryDetails.do?voyageCode=B042&trade=C

Celebrity also has the Summit out of SJU that only has one Sea Day, and RCCL has a 7 night on the Serenade with one Sea Day.

So you may want to remove that little emoticon thingy less you look a little silly. ;)

We will be there next week, wonder how the tour operators and vendors will be? Hope they aren't ticked at us (passengers) It will be interesting.

we were wondering the same thing last night, we have a excursion booked through CCL for 2 Nov. the last day victory will be in port:eek: I hope everything goes well! DH said maybe we should have a plan "B"

FWIW I just heard from my PVP that he's had no notice of this. <taking a grain and passing around the salt shaker>

I did the Princess version of this cruise 2 years ago; paid more money for it. Their other itinerary is up this year; again more money. Same with RCCL. I'll stick with this one, no matter what happens.

Just talked to a Carnival rep. She said an e-mail will be going out tomorrow or the next day to people about Dominica being taken off the itinerary and when I asked if it'll be a sea day, she said most likely. So we'll probably know more tomorrow or Friday.

Oh, and there's been a price drop too for balcony on at least the 12-18-10 sailing that I'll still be going on but disappointed I won't be floating down the river in Dominica now.

My TA said carnival said it will be a sea day. As for the price drop, it is a pack and go special. I don't think we can get a price drop for it. I was checking it out at home and that is for Balcony Guarantee. Ironic that there is a price drop so quickly after the leak about Dominica. Doxie

I found another e-article.... “The cost of fuel has forced us to restructure the Carnival Victory itinerary. Cancelling Dominica would save us more fuel than any other alternative considered. In addition to the fuel costs we have had complaints from our passengers regarding the excessive number of port calls on this seven day itinerary.”

http://www.caribbeandailynews.com/dominica-government-laments-cruise-ship-departure/

Wow that sucks. Why would anyone book this cruise if they did not want to visit 7 islands? People could stay on the ship if they were tired. It's just a way for CCL to create a captive audience. No competition for the dollar. I love the ship but with the changes, I don't know if I'll cruise Victory again. I loved Antigua and the took it away, now Dominica. Bummer:eek:

Just in case Carnival do read these boards....don't drop Barbados...I'm one of the Brits that will be joining from there!

I'm feeling a bit bummed because we've booked a 3 nights Barbados/the Victory cruise through a travel agent here. I just did a silly thing and had a look at their website and they are now doing the offer of 14 nights for the price of 10 for the time we are travelling so we could have had 7 nights in Barbados :( If I wanted less sea days I could have booked an Orlando stay & cruise for 14 nights for less than the trip we're taking

My teens are so level-headed though and just said it's all ok...dropping Dominica? No problem. What can we do on board? Less nights in Barbados? If we had more we'd need more spending money. When did they become the adults in the relationship? lol

Well, if I wish to keep my dates as I already have airline tickets, this leaves me with 2 choices.

(1) I can keep the Carnival cruise and assuming they do not make any other changes, which at this point I do not believe. Its St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten

(2) RCL and the stops are: Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Maarten, and St. Crox

The same: Barbados, St. Lucia & St. Maarten.

The question is Antigua & St. Crox v. St. Thomas & St. Kitts. Which is the better choice?

(Not concerned about the cost of the cruise, but the choice of islands.)

This morning I received an e-mail from Kayak advertising special prices for Carnival Victory cruises. It still had the Dominica port in the itinerary. It looks like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing or they are blatantly fabricating????

That was our debate for the same reasons, we have all the arrangements made - Air, Hotel in OSJ, Transporatation. We wanted Doninica more the St. Thomas. We're leaning with staying, but I guess it'll depend what the letter says when it comes.

If cost weren't an issue for us, we'd be booking the Royal one with St Croix and Antigua since we just went to St Thomas. But it would be about $850 more total for us and that's our excursion money :(.

Well either way we will have to endure a day at sea so well just make the best of it.

I just seen on the carnival forums one of the staff members wrote the following:

Carnival Cruise Lines is making a minor modification to the itinerary of the Carnival Victory, which offers year-round seven-day Caribbean cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Effective with the voyage departing Nov. 21, 2010, the ship will no longer make a stop in Dominica as part of the itinerary. The vessel will continue to call in the five other scheduled ports which include St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. The decision to make this modification was based on a study of fuel consumption costs which is a major focus for the cruise industry as companies continue to strive for opportunities to conserve fuel. The Carnival Victory’s modified itinerary will continue to offer a fantastic array of exciting ports of call providing a true taste of the beauty and diversity of the Caribbean region.

Wow...we seem to be a lot a like...lol.

We have decided to stay too. :D

We were looking at the same one NCL. We want to take our grown kids with us. We were looking at NCL too. Jan is the only time we can take a vacation. We know the oldest son (and GF) will most likely be able to go. Our daughter is the up in the air one. She wants to go but her BF is lifer in the Army. He just signed his last re-enlistment and is coming to the end of his present duty station. So no one really knows where they will be yet - There is even a chance he will be deployed. :(

I just realised the other day that you had invited us to dinner on the cruise. I am still learning CC...LOL...I lost all the other posts. OK, not really lost - it was just me not understanding how to get back to them...lol. I am sorry for any unanswered posts. I "think" I'm getting better at CC, but don't hold me to it...lol. ;)

FYI - I asked on the Carnival Forum ...

We are on Victory on Jan 23rd. I was wondering if the "at sea day" will be on the day that should have been Dominica? Or will the Island schedule be different?

Renee answer back - lighting fast...

Hi again Lonny,

Yes, Tuesday will be a 'day at sea'.

FYI.... Carnival's policy on Itinerary Change..... Read it very carefully..... make your minds up fast!!!!!!!

http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Static_Templates/Port_Cancellation_Policy.aspx

"guests will have the opportunity to cancel their booking without penalty prior to sailing and within 24 hours of the guest notification, and in such an instance, guests will have the option to receive either a cash refund or a future cruise credit. In the event a guest does not cancel the cruise on a timely basis, no refund of any kind will be available."

REFUND OF GOVERNMENT FEES AND TAXES:

If a port is cancelled from the scheduled itinerary, a refund of the government fees and taxes for the cancelled port will be provided via a shipboard credit.
