siouxrose Posted September 23, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Did anyone else see this? It's a sale on a 7 day cruise departing Dec 12th from only $1999! I'd love to go but doubt I can talk DH into it since we are already sailing on SD in November. It's almost cheaper than staying at home:o
Rare knotheadusc Posted September 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2010 I saw it. It looks very tempting, but it's too much like the cruise we did in April. We would rather spend the $$$ and cruise a different itinerary. We might have considered it if they were sailing out of St. Maartin.
notasilverspoooner Posted September 23, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Wow, that is almost have the price we are paying for our late March sailing. Hopefully Sea Dream isn't having a hard time filling their yachts.
Rare knotheadusc Posted September 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Well, it was just one cruise. They let you in on these private sales once you've sailed with them once. The cruise we took in April was a five day voyage for a $1599 GTY fare and it was open to everyone. I'd love to see one of those pop up again! notasilverspoooner Posted September 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2010 I guess it never entered my mind that lines Like Sea Dream would ever need to lower their price. They a great high end product and only up to 110 cabins to fill at any one time.
Rare knotheadusc Posted September 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Actually, I think they compete a lot with Seabourn. As of yesterday, Seabourn had two cruises in Europe going as low as $1999 and a few more that are just a couple hundred dollars over that. SeaDream only has two vessels, so I can understand why they don't lower their prices more, but I'm sure they're under some pressure because of Seabourn. My husband and I lived in Germany until last year. If we were still there right now, we'd strongly consider one of those Seabourn cruises. We've never cruised Seabourn and those sale fares are low enough to be very tempting! I have seen SeaDream with GTY fares as low as $1499-- I think that was in the 2009 season, though. The low fare was one way I could get my husband to try luxury cruising. Convincing him to get back onboard is much easier now that he knows what he's getting for the money! notasilverspoooner Posted September 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2010 We looked at Seabourn but really like the water sports and laid back environment of Sea Dream. I've seen a lot of advertisement on the web for Sea Dream charters. I hope our trip doesn't get chartered at the last moment. We don't leave for six months which gives them plenty of time to charter. notasilverspoooner Posted September 24, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 24, 2010 It is advertised on a website which has good deals on cruises. You should be able to Google discount cruises and find it.
Rare knotheadusc Posted September 24, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I got it in an email. It's supposedly a private sale to repeat cruisers.
notasilverspoooner Posted September 24, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I can't post the webiste, but Google the following and you will find the site. "Save up to 75% on Last-Minute Cruises" You have to give them an e-mail address and then can access the site. Do a quick search for Sea Dream and you will see the week for Dec 12th is on sale for $1,999.
siouxrose Posted September 24, 2010 Author #12 Share Posted September 24, 2010 The offer came as an email. We had signed uo for special offers while on board. The sale lasts 2 weeks and you need to pay in full within 24hrs. I'm sure if you call SD you can get this rate. It starts at $1999 GTY on deck 2. We sailed in Dec 09 for $1999 GTY. It must be a slow time of year for SD.

notasilverspoooner Posted September 24, 2010 #15 Share Posted September 24, 2010 We have sailed on other lines before in the second week in Dec is almost always a good deal. I'm hoping for a good rate in Mar but right now we are paying around $3,800 each when you factor in the fees.
frequent traveler Posted September 24, 2010 #16 Share Posted September 24, 2010 This "week" in Dec. is traditionally a low week for travel as its right before peak holiday travel - we took advantage of the SD sale last year to sell on SD 2. While it was a great deal, we ended up on board with the President (wonderfully personable and charming man) and the entire sales team (great people, but it changed the dynamics and I would not want to do again). So I would not assume there is any difficulty with SD filling the yachts and from the way prices are holding and the number of weeks the yachts are being chartered (where the real money is), I think SD is doing ok. And during spring break season - doubtful rates will go down, once school holidays start, rates seem to level out. just IMHO (I finally figured that one out and have been waiting to use it). FT. Rare DisneyJen Posted September 24, 2010 #17 Share Posted September 24, 2010 Haven't ever received anything on a private sale even though we have sailed SD four times. Interesting... flygod Posted September 24, 2010 #18 Share Posted September 24, 2010 Hi, Can tell you - from bitter experience! - that Seadream is doing OK> Tried to book a last minute on the Oct 2nd out of Athens, but full. The TA in Oct has just one cabin left - on Deck 4, so more expensive and also we liked the sound of the water going past the portholes in Deck 2! As I said to them, good to know a quality product is doing well. It means it will still be around in the future. Just means we are going to Cape Verde next month instead. Are you on the e-mail list? I know I signed up once but it never came through (I think maybe once I changed computers the spam filter kicks it out) but since ZQ Vol gets, we still hear about it. rolltide1 Posted September 24, 2010 #21 Share Posted September 24, 2010 The last email we received from SD was August 24, 2010. Before that, I can't even remember. That is why I was curious as to where the prior posters were seeing that very attractive rate.

frequent traveler Posted September 24, 2010 #23 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I got the e-mail yesterday pm and sure enough - it went to the junk e-mail filter, just discovered it this pm. So now I have to figure how how to change SD to a "safe sender" - safe for e-mail, though dangerous to the credit card!
Rare DisneyJen Posted September 25, 2010 #24 Share Posted September 25, 2010 The email didn't show up in any of our five accounts:eek: Perhaps DJ's DH has put some safeguards in place that I don't know about:confused: I am thinking the SD marketing folks need to rethink this whole process ... SonomaWine Posted September 25, 2010 #25 Share Posted September 25, 2010 I received the SeaDream e-mail about mid-day yesterday, about 2 hours after paying for our trip on the Sojourn. We were undecided between SeaDream, Silversea and Seabourn. Then all of a sudden Seabourn had a "Private Sale" so we jumped at it, and 24 hours later SeaDream followed suit. With the new Odyssey, Sojourn & Spirit out there, that's alot of cabins to fill for a December cruise in the Caribbean!
