Baie Comeau

Recommended Posts

Wow! This is the first I heard about this. Hope you get some answers. We decided to bag Baie Comeau because this trip is so port intensive. I did find this info on a thread:

La Baie: I would suggest you to take the HOHO bus. It only cost about $10 (canadian fund) for a daily unlimited pass. They have 2 routes: Chicumti and La Baie. You do not need to get off the bus if you don't want to. You can just enjoy the scenic drive.

We just returned from a repositioning cruise from Quebec City to Ft. Lauderdale. Our first stop was Baie-Comeau, Quebec. The people here are thrilled to have a ship stop. They shut down the school (honest) the day the Eurodam was in town. They used school busses to provide a shuttle into town as well as some shore excursions. We took the shuttle to town ($5. per person round trip). The town is small but very friendly and beautiful...obviously trying to become a port stop. The curbs of the sidewalks are made of granite! The locals speak primarily french but also speak english. It was a rustic and cool stop. We were given a "thanks for visiting" book mark as we walked back to the ship. You can get more information at www.villebaie-comeau.qc.ca

Thanks for that info. I have been trying to find some information on Baie Commeau. I will check out your link. It is nice to see that this is a fairly new stop and so therefore there will not be a lot of jaded locals.

The Glacier Interpretation Center.

There is no actual glacier there. It is a center that explains how glaciers shaped the area a very long time ago.

The center is now "closed" due to lack of funding. They had a deficit of $500K that they could not make up, so everybody got laid off.

The park is still accessible "at your own risk", but is not maintained anymore.

Thanks for posting - it'll help us decide what to do when we get there in October. It's a shame..........
