Callie Rose Posted September 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2010 Is there local transportation to get to the glacier exploration center?
LVSue Posted September 27, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Wow! This is the first I heard about this. Hope you get some answers. We decided to bag Baie Comeau because this trip is so port intensive. I did find this info on a thread: La Baie: I would suggest you to take the HOHO bus. It only cost about $10 (canadian fund) for a daily unlimited pass. They have 2 routes: Chicumti and La Baie. You do not need to get off the bus if you don't want to. You can just enjoy the scenic drive.

bcscot Posted September 30, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2010 La Baie is in the Saguenay River area, while Baie Comeau is farther down the St. Lawrence River. They are two different places. There are 'Baies' all over the region (bays).
keyskruzer Posted October 18, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 18, 2010 We just returned from a repositioning cruise from Quebec City to Ft. Lauderdale. Our first stop was Baie-Comeau, Quebec. The people here are thrilled to have a ship stop. They shut down the school (honest) the day the Eurodam was in town. They used school busses to provide a shuttle into town as well as some shore excursions. We took the shuttle to town ($5. per person round trip). The town is small but very friendly and beautiful...obviously trying to become a port stop. The curbs of the sidewalks are made of granite! The locals speak primarily french but also speak english. It was a rustic and cool stop. We were given a "thanks for visiting" book mark as we walked back to the ship. I have been trying to find some information on Baie Commeau. I will check out your link. It is nice to see that this is a fairly new stop and so therefore there will not be a lot of jaded locals. goalready Posted August 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 8, 2013 Anyone know how to visit this spot? What are transportation options; how spread out is the town?
p_mori7 Posted August 9, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2013 The Glacier Interpretation Center. There is no actual glacier there. It is a center that explains how glaciers shaped the area a very long time ago. The center is now "closed" due to lack of funding. They had a deficit of $500K that they could not make up, so everybody got laid off. The park is still accessible "at your own risk", but is not maintained anymore.
