murphyis1 Posted September 28, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2010 We snorkel Eden Rock, but this time we also want to see 7 mile beach. I have read that the northern end is best for shore snorkeling. Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks!
belarus70 Posted October 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2010 We snorkeled the wreck of the Cali walking distance from the port and it was amazing. Exit the port, turn left, walk a 1/4 mile or so until you see Hammerheads. Here we rented a locker to store our belongings, $10.00 for the day. We had our own gear but they rent it if you need it. From there jump in and head straight out to the wreck. We really recommend this spot.
Raydar Posted October 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Grand Cayman is amazing for snorkeling! We took 2 week long vacations after stopping here on a cruise. The North end of 7 mile Beach is "cemetery beach". A taxi driver will take you there. If you tender to Georgetown (sometimes the cruise ships have to tender to the southern side of the island because of weather), which is almost always the case, a taxi will only take about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. The taxi will drop you off in front of a cemetery. There is a path along the side to reach the beach. There is shade and a beautiful sand beach. No restrooms or food. You will need your own gear. Swim out a bit to fine the reefs, but it is such an easy swim. If someone in the group is not interested in snorkel, they can swim /sunbath/ walk the beach. We saw our first turtles here. Taxis travel the road (it's the main one) and getting back is not a problem, just allow for traffic! It is the banking center and, believe it or not, there is a rush hour :)
