Rare debsjc Posted October 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2010 I've read a couple of reports about there being some reasonable snorkelling at the far end of Half Moon Cay, by some rocks. Has anyone tried it, or have any info at all? Thanks
G.C Posted October 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2010 Yes at the end of the beach on the far end of the island there is a hard bottom with a sunken ship. Lots of fish to see and you will have it all to yourself. It is a long walk and part of it over a rocky wall area. We have been there twice and the snorkeling is great. You are on your own on that end of the island.
Rare debsjc Posted October 6, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted October 6, 2010 Thanks, i'm hoping there will be some other people snorkelling up there as well. I'm travelling with my mother who doesn't snorkel. It would be better not to be up there totally on my own, in case a jellyfish decides to sting me! Did you see any jellyfish at all? diverwayne Posted October 6, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2010 Jellyfish stings are usually only painful and leave marks for a short time unless you are allerigic. You can buy products that will relieve the problems from them most dive shops carry it.
Rare debsjc Posted November 2, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted November 2, 2010 I'm back now and the snorkelling at the far end of Half Moon Cay was really good. It's a long, hot 20 min walk, but worth it. I went on my own, as my vacation partner does not snorkel. I didn't have fins on and although I'm a strong swimmer there are some currents around by the rocks. Also, I saw a large barracuda which sightly scared me when he turned towards me! Best to go down there with someone else if you can. It's a long way from help just in case of something unexpected happening.

G.C Posted November 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2010 This small island is just a few miles due south of the big island Eleuthera which is due east of Nassau if you can find that in the Bahamas. HMC is also called wish I could stay forever beach by some.
