EJRIVER Posted October 9, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted October 9, 2010 We asked for the wait list in March 2011. The agent said the ship has so few cabins that it would be very doubtful that anyone would cancel. Good luck with waiting but we picked from the available dates even though it wasn't our first choice. This will be our 3rd cruise with Viking. They are the best. scott7781 Posted January 16, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 16, 2011 Left Saigon in 90 degree heat to arrive Atlanta in freezing weather, ice, and snow - worse storm in many years! However, much enjoyed the Viking trip. We also took the Ha Long Bay extention and you will love it! It was one of the highlights for me! The other was Angkor Wat. Couldn't get enough of it. The trip is strenuous, and your heat in July will be breath-taking and not in the good way! It was very hot for us in December, and July is much worse they say. But, the program directors are all true professionals and fun people and the boat was delightful - right out of an Agatha Christie novel! We were on the bottom deck in single cabins and since there is no elevator there was a lot of climbing steep and narrow stairs several times a day - get yourself in shape for the trip if you are not already. The hotels are all top-notch - the Sofitel Metropole Legend in Hanoi ranks at the top of my list of service-oriented hotels. I can't say enough about them! All in all, we found this tour to be very educational and quite interesting. I think there is a bit of tweaking that may be done since we were "the guinea pigs", but then that's my opinion. We had a fun group of guests and what a pleasant way to spend the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Bon voyage!
JamsA Posted January 31, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 31, 2011 We are on the July cruise arriving in South Vietnam on the 15th. We did not take the Viking Transfers, as they seem a bit expensive for the trip from the airport. Looking at taking a taxi to and from the airports. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you, JIM

Thank you, JIM Checked on transfers for our trip starting in Hanoi-$16 per 4 seat taxi ($18 for 7 seater) from airport to hotel. Check hanoiairporttransfer dot com. Found info at Trip Advisor. Should be able to find something similar for Saigon if you're starting from that end.

Vikinglover Posted February 4, 2011 #11 Share Posted February 4, 2011 Have taken Viking on many trips and booked the new one as soon as possible. They are great and am sure this one will be as good as the others, which included the China, Egypt, Russia, Danube. Booked own flights and spending 3 extra days in Singapore as we are flying Singapore air and the costs are really great. About 1/2 of the flights that fly into Hanoi and Ho Chi Min
