The New Norm Posted October 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2010 Greetings, Could anyone who has experience with Galvez or Tremont in Galveston share their thoughts - preferences for one or the other? And if there is another option I should consider I'd be grateful for the heads up. It's only for one night but I have someone in my party who's quite the hotel snob :) Many thanks,
whaletaillover Posted October 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2010 We have not stayed at the Tremont but have stayed at the Galvez. It was a few years ago but it was a very nice hotel. Hope this helps.
travelingtriumphess Posted October 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2010 This is a great hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed its location, the rooms, and our view. The beds were very comfortable. We slept wonderfully the night before our cruise. We had a problem with a nearby restaurant (it was Valentine's night) and walked away still hungry. The next morning though, we had breakfast there, and the service was really good and the breakfast was delicous. I reassured my husband that he would no longer have to starve since we would be on the Carnival Cruise. Boy was I right. They have a shuttle service to the cruise dock and free parking. We did not use this, but it was secure. We ended up parking right across from the cruise terminal, which was very convenient. Anyway, yes! I really liked Hotel Galvez. robtx100 Posted October 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2010 We've stayed at the Tremont House twice and Hotel Galvez three times. Both hotels are great. Tremont is great that it is down in the Strand and Galvez is great that it is right across from the beach. I like them both. If you are driving like we do, you will be parking in the garage at Hotel Galvez, so Galvez is a bit more convenient because of this. With Tremont, you valet for the night, then have to get your car and drive to Galvez and shuttle to the ship or back to Tremont.

CGBCruiser Posted October 11, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 11, 2010 The Galvez has recently remodeled all their rooms too. We stayed there in April for a wedding. We were on the 2nd floor and it had been totally redone. They are working one floor at a time and hopefully are finished by now. Very comfortable room. The only weird thing is that now the rooms are very contemporary instead of traditional. I only say it's weird because it's really an old hotel and you have this traditional ambiance in the lobby area and then the rooms are totally different. You'll have a great stay at any of the hotels mentioned in this thread!
