King Tut Exhibit in San Juan

We just found out that this exhibit is in San Juan until 2011, and we would like to take the tour on the day of disembarkation from Millie. Is there any place to leave our suitcases while we view the exhibit? Would they have lockers there? Can we leave our suitcases outside the night before and then just got around San Juan until time to go to the airport....will they be safe at the airport for something like 7 hours???

Since you have to clear customs as part of your entry into the US from the cruise, you need to pick up your bags. leaving them and picking them up later isn't an option.

Does the airline you are flying offer check in of your bags at the port? I don't know if you can do this in San Juan.

Can you change your flight and return the next day. Get a hotel for the night, and that solves your problem.

Maybe rent a car and lock your bags in the trunk.

Research where this exhibit goes after San Juan...often they travel. Maybe you can catch it somewhere else.

Good Luck!

Celebrity does offer a luggage valet service where you get your boarding passes on the ship then are able to check you bags at the port terminal just after you pass through customs.

This is described at the bottom of this page: http://www.celebritycruises.com/whyceleb/heroSingleTxtSub.do?pagename=outstanding_service

Cost has been $20/pp in the past and you have to have a final destination in the USA. Also, you are not 100% sure to be accepted - we were denied once as part of a random sample for TSA security purposes and once my wife was denied as a prior airline upgrade request had marked her airline ticket as requiring airport check-in.

There is a restaurant in Old San Juan, Barrachinas which offers luggage check for cruise passengers: http://www.barrachina.com/

If your schedule would permit you to arrive in San Juan early enough, you can board the ship as early as noon, then leave the ship to go see the exhibit, returning in time for the sailing. This might be a better option as you would not have to deal with your luggage.

In order to avoid airline delays, especially during winter, we always fly in a day early to San Juan. I would highly recommend doing this if you can. As a frequent traveler to San Juan over a number of years, it has been my experience that if a flight to San Juan is cancelled you have a high probability of being pushed to the next day.
