Hi, we are family of 5 and would like a nice beach for swim, snorkle, lazying on the beach or other suggestions of what to do without having to do excursion. We are on a tight budget but we are going to have a blast anyway. All info appreciated, Thanks!;)

There is no beach on the mainland. Any beaches (on the cayes) will have to be accessed by boat.

Did you mean you didn't want to use the ship's excursions? There are independant operators you can contact ahead of time as well as there at the tourist village.

The only beach you would be able to get to without an excursion (ship or independent) would be either CayeCaulker (not really much of a beach ) by water taxi ($15RTus p/p about 45 min). Or Ambergris Caye (water taxi $25RTus p/p about 75min, or plane $50RT p/p 20 min plus taxi to airport) http://www.ambergriscaye.com

Coral Sands Beach resort is new and nice, but only accessed via an excursion.

Personally, if you wanted to snorkel, I'd spend the money on an excursion, look through this board and find a company you'd feel comfortable with.

the prevous person is correct about Belize. it isn't like other places that you can hop in a taxi and go to a beach.. You will need to work with some kind of excursion either through the ship or on the dock to go snorkling.
