Hi! I noticed you live in Merida and I hope you don't mind answering a few questions for me. We sponsor a little girl (thru Christian Foundation for Children and Aging) who lives outside Merida. Her village/town is called Felipe Carrillo Puerto (that is all the info I have b/c everything goes thru a 3rd party). Is that a place we could get to easily while docked in port? Or maybe her family could meet us in Merida. We send her family money every month, but we are not allowed to send presents. We'd love to meet them in person to do so. Also, is there a driver/translator we could hire to go with us? We don't speak spanish and they don't speak english.

TIA!

I would love to be able to take you but Felipe Carrillo Puerto is too far away to get there and back in one day. Looking at the map, it's about 4 hours drive or more one way! That said, if you could get them to Merida (realizing it will be a huge trip for them there and back) you could meet there.

Hello again Jackie!

There is indeed a Felipe Carrillo Puerto near the airport, but it is not a town; rather it is a neighborhood, which are known locally as 'colonias'. You will notice other neighborhoods there as well, such as Emiliano Zapata Sur etc.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto was a major player in the history of the Yucatan and many places, streets, neighborhoods and buildings are named after him. The town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto is the one I mentioned before, and is in Yucatans southern part which is economically depressed and where, I suspect, your little person lives.

I hope this helps!
