wheresmypopcorn Posted December 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2010 So, this is the dress I REALLY want... I am plus sized and I think it would cover up what needs to be covered and show enough and be good for a cruise... I think it is simple enough and different enough and elegant and would go with the simple calla lilies I would like to carry... but... I am TERRIFIED to purchase from an unknown company overseas with no recourse... plus they spell neckline wrong which bothers me... What do you think? http://www.bridalgownsonsale.com/chiffon-off-shoulder--straps-with-sexy-v-nekeline-and-asymmetrical-pleats-over-the-dress-a-line-semi-cathedral-trains-2011-hot-sell-new-custom-made-plus-size-wedding-dress-wb-0097--2265.html
Lipz Posted December 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2010 I'm a scared-yyyyy cat, so I know as much as I don't want to spend a lot on a dress.... I wouldn't send these people who can't even spell my hard earned cash! :(
HeatherC430 Posted December 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2010 the dress is beautiful! if you really love it, i'd so go for it! for only 200 bucks, i'd say it's worth a shot! (especially if you can't find something in the U.S. with a similar size & price!) have you done your due diligence showing bridal stores around you? also, maybe try doing an internet search on reviews of the company name? i'm sure if it's a complete scam you'll find reviews out there somewhere stating so! good luck! maddam_5maria Posted December 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2010 I would be terrifed...but that's just me. I've seen some brides have good luck with companies as such...and I've seen some horror stories. It's a 50/50 chance. If the price for the dress is worthing loosing to take a chance, then take it. If you are on a strict budget, I'd really consider a local dress shop.
VM_Mom Posted December 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2010 It is a lovely dress (in the photo anyway). If you want to give it a shot, I would say check with your credit card company first and see what your recourse is. I believe the major credit card companies will work with you to reverse the charges if the company tries to scam you. Do NOT send them a check, money order, etc. If they won't take a credit card that is a MAJOR red flag. Good luck - let us know what you decide! LizB1979 Posted December 13, 2010 #6 Share Posted December 13, 2010 Try looking on http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/ , http://woreitonce.com/ , http://encorebridal.com/ , http://www.oncewed.com/used-wedding-dresses/ , http://www.recycledbride.com/listing-by-category/Wedding_Dresses These are all great resources for wedding dresses at reduced prices. Some are used, some are samples & some are simply dresses that were purchased but never worn. Most of them have options where you can search by designer, size &/or price. Good luck!!! LizB1979 Posted December 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted December 14, 2010 I wish you luck :) At least you seem to have a general idea of what you are looking for. I, on the other hand, have NO IDEA...haha. I am getting married on St. Thomas next November and I have yet to try on a single dress. I always thought I had tons of time, but the more I talk to people the more I realize I need to start looking... My plan at this point is to try on some dresses at Davids Bridal (or some place without too much pressure) and get a general idea of what fits on my body and will work for a beach wedding, then buy a nice version online at a (hopefully) discounted price. It may be that nekeline is spelled the way it is, because it is a foreigner. I read the description & it says v-neck. I see they take credit cards...I would go for it!!! Let us know what you decide. osuchica Posted December 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted December 14, 2010 I say go for it, too! I ordered my dress from this place (China) and had no issues! http://www.gianinar.com/
Darcy15 Posted December 14, 2010 #12 Share Posted December 14, 2010 Though I have no experience of purchasing a wedding dress, I have had several very positive shopping experiences online with Chinese vendors. Not really expecting them to arrive at all, or be fake, I ordered some pearls for an amazingly low price. Well, they arrived promptly, were beautifully packaged, were absolutely real and truly stunning. I subsequently bought several other pieces and was not disappointed ( I just adore pearls, in all shapes and sizes:):):)). If you like the dress- and it is very pretty, by the way- go for it. Lots of luck with the dress and your wedding plans :)
SailnSki123 Posted December 15, 2010 #13 Share Posted December 15, 2010 I'd be worried about buying a dress I hadn't tried on. I know when I went and looked at dresses, I didn't like many of the dresses that I had initially picked out while doing my search online. I ended up purchasing a dress totally that was totally different from what I initially had in mind. Those just didnt look right. Good luck! (how I could have forgotten to think about that is making me wonder what else I have forgotten to think about...) Thanks for the heads up. There is a bridal expo here in January. Artemis908 Posted December 16, 2010 #17 Share Posted December 16, 2010 If you plan on ordering online, give yourself plenty of time so that you'll be prepared for problems. Make sure they have a good return policy and if you're okay with the risk of having to send it back, go for it. I've ordered custom clothing from China before and they have gotten the sizes wrong, however, they were very nice about correcting the issue for free. I am plus sized too and I gotta tell you, I was surprised how much I was able to find at Davids Bridal. The problem with smaller boutiques is they have size 12 and that's it. So I'd try on a dress and couldn't zipper it. Now how am I suppose to tell if I like a dress if I can't even zipper it?! Davids Bridal had a ton of stuff and I was able to find a great dress for $300, which was $200 less than I was prepared to spend. Here it is: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=1nGsc46p8L617gysMYMa1eAiw7HIj7DD4JGYgbvsuGgPOf8f7Fpaxe-zsT2UX&hl=en&authkey=COTesPAO

Rock that dress girl. As cheap as I am I don't even want to pay $300 for a dress I can only wear once, but your right... David's Bridal works well for selections and being able to actually try on a dress that you fit. I will be going back there to make a final decision on Dec. 31st. Unfortunately I can't go to the Bridal Show here because I have class that weekend. It's mostly local vendors, so I am not as disappointed as I was when I looked more closely at the date. Artemis908 Posted December 21, 2010 #22 Share Posted December 21, 2010 Thank you, VM and Lipz. That dress I think shrunk me at least two dress sizes and I don't need to even tailor it assuming my weight stays the same until the wedding. I had tried to go to a boutique before David's Bridal but the dresses were all size 12 and expensive. I knew I didn't want to have a dress that was over the top or glitzy, I wanted something simple. I had initially considered getting a dress online, but it seemed like a lot of sites had a very strict return policy. I didn't think they stress was worth it. cruisinthemed Posted January 3, 2011 #23 Share Posted January 3, 2011 I just ordered a formal gown from China. I was willing to take the chance, because the gown is absolutely gorgeous, the price was right & I used paypal...;which will help if there were a problem with the maker. I even requested it be delivered to me by the 4th of Feb. for our Feb. 11th They said no problem. I e-mailed my measurements, and am keeping my fingers crossed. If it works out, I will order my wedding gown from them also. I will let you know in about 5 weeks.
