BTDT -mosquitoes, were you bitten?

If you've been to the DR I was wondering if you might share your experiences? Were mosquitoes a problem for you? Do you recall being bitten at all?

We're going in February 2011 and I'm not sure if I want to get off the ship or not. We have a young toddler. And DEET is not something I want to put on my child or myself at this point.

Thanks

We just got back from La Romana and we took the shuttle to Altos de Chavon at the port for $7.00 round trip. Both of my sons and husband were bit several times while walking around the grounds. I brought mosquito spray, but it was too late by the time we realized we were being bit. There were nature trails and a beautiful river and that was mainly when we were bit.
