scotlady Posted December 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2010 Hi, Planning on taking the taxi/ferry over to St. John on our Celebrity Summit cruise in January. Looks like we are the only ship in port that day, so that's great! But it is on a Sunday, so - has anyone gone to St. John on a Sunday? I'm wondering if there will be any problem finding taxis to take us to/from the beaches. Second part of question - I'm taking my mom who is in her 60s and has never snorkeled. I know Trunk Bay is easy to snorkel at - but are there better snorkeling beaches that would also be easy (i.e., not too shallow and not too far from the shore for the snorkeling). Any help appreciated!
Skai Posted December 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2010 Do you have an aversion to Trunk Bay?...It can get crowded later in the day but it's still a very nice beach...There's a reason it is one of the more popular locations on the island...It's a short ride from the dock and the snorkeling there is good right by the small island off of the beach...The amenities provided(lockers/showers) are also a plus... scotlady Posted December 22, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted December 22, 2010 Yes, we went to Trunk Bay about 5 years ago. Very beautiful beach, not much live coral but lots of fish. Is it still about the same as far as the snorkeling goes? I've read some complaints on the board about the snorkeling trail being dead - I don't expect much coral, but are there still lots of fish? Still hoping also to find someone who has tried to get taxis on a Sunday. Since we are the only ship in port, along with it being Sunday, I'm a little worried about taxi drivers taking the day off?
