Sugar Cane

Can anyone help??

As a child I went to Barbados (just outside of Bridgetown) for a two week vacation and my favourite memory is chewing on a huge stick of sugar cane. My teenage boys have heard me talk about it so much that they now want to do the same thing when we port there in March.

If anyone could offer me some direction or advice as to where I can even start to try and make this happen for them, I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Thanks!

Pam

There are sugar cane fields ALL over the island. Many are no longer harvested. It takes a lot of work to get rid of them after they are planted.

You will actually be on the island in the midst of the sugar season. So your chances of making this happen for your kids its quite good.:)

It is not uncommon to see trucks loaded with canes (on their way to be turned into sugar) driving along the roads.

You may also be able to find some already peeled and neatly packaged from vendors on the streets as well.
