Snorkeling without stingrays

I'm not aware of any operators who don't visit Stingray City. You might do what I did: booked Capt Marvin's 1/2 day trip which included two excellent snorkel stops (Coral Gardens and Barrier Reef) plus Stingray. At Stingray City I got in the water with about ten thousand other people and promptly returned to the boat. Capt Marvin has relatively small boats. There were about 12 - 15 people on board, but there are a large number of huge catamarans that gather at Stingray City. The kids seem to love the experience, but it was too hectic and crowded for me.

To paraphrase the sailor in Apocalypse Now: "Don't leave the boat".

I can also recommend shore snorkeling at Devil's Grotto which is about a five minute stroll from the tender docks. There are dive shops with rental lockers and rinse tanks. It's hard pan, but the shops have easy access.

If you're ship's in port all day, do both. It's all good.
