Now, I'm getting concerned about the Glory and it's reliability

From reading about the disappointing cruise this past week on Glory, some posts have stated that it has had problems for months. THis concerns me since I am leaving on Saturday (3/5) on the same Eastern itinerary. Have other GLory salings had issues? Just concerned as this is a special cruise to celebrate my 40th birthday. :( Hoping for some nice, warm sunshine. Where we stop doesn't really concern me other than that. :)

If I were you I would do some research before you go.Find out as much as you can. Glory definately was getting ready to sale again when we got off. We heard a lot of noises and thumps and bumps, a lot of rocking.

One day, during breakfast, just before we headed for Key West and immigration had cleared us, there was a lot of bouncing and grinding. Dishes were bouncing on the tables in the Platnium room, trays crashed. This was during Breakfast around 9:30. One night the lights went out for a short period. People in the casino were furious. A friend got $250 on a slot machine when the lights went off, when they came the machine was just spinning, just lost all of her win even after arguing with them in the Casino for half hour.

One night at 1:30, I was in bed, my daughter came in, and there was a horrible sound, all I could think of we were cracking in half. My daughter came out of the bathroom and said what was that. We were ready to get the life vests and I guess we were not the only ones that were ready to do so. I have never heard so many noises on a ship before.

We were on the Lido deck so we were guite a way away from the engine rooms.

I'm going to be on the Glory 3/12 ... and I'm just not going to worry about it because, quite frankly, there's really nothing I can do about the situation. I'm just going to focus on things I can control, like packing etc.

I too, am celebrating my 40th on the Glory but it will be in early April on a western cruise. I would agree with the previous poster...these are things beyond our control and have faith in Carnival Cruise Lines that they will rectify the situation.

I wouldn't worry too much. You never know when something will malfunction/break. Things can/will go wrong on any ship or cruiseline as new things can break just like old ones. Hopefully Carnival has this problem fixed and is making repairs to other ships that may encounter the same problem to avoid this problem in the future.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the Glory is booked near to capacity prior to it's next scheduled 'maintenance', they will continue to work on the problems 'piece-meal' until they find a solution. They just don't seem to have a spare ship sitting around waiting to fill in.. :rolleyes:

Ships tend to have many thumps and bumps... I'd worry when the horn toots 7 times, tho'.. :eek:

'Rocking'.. haven't figured out how anything mechanical could do that!

Maybe the bow thrusters, but doesn't seem logical..

Again, its the 'beast within' being a ship and having it's own power generating system.. soon as the ship powers down, just that split second before it's restored or the back up system kicks in, leaves things in a tizzy.. and slot machines get grumpy when they have no power. :(

 

I'm not defending Carnival, or the Glory, but there are a lot of decisions that have to be made, problems worked on and hopefully rectified, BUT there is always the chance that things won't work out as planned. Even the best laid plan is subject to error.

My plan on my next cruise is the same as previous ones.. take what is offered, and make the best of it. I'd rather be on that cruise ship, then here at home.. I'll cope! ;)

Tricia...:o Sorry you've been reading about the not so pleasant happenings on the Glory. This rocking and rolling can happen on any ship, and you know they're working on the problems, mechanical or whatever. (Hopefully, everything will be in perfect order by the time you board.)

 

What you have to concentrate on NOW are the facts:

 

You ARE going on the Glory on 3/5. That's not going to change - but your mental state has to adjust from the way it is right now. You can still have a fantastic cruise; it's just that you may have to go with the flow a bit. Try to direct your thoughts, not to what MIGHT happen, but what will PROBABLY be the most fun you've ever had. You're celebrating a milestone birthday, 40, at sea!:)

 

Change your mind's direction right now, Ms B'dayGirl! Go with the attitude that you WILL have a fabulous voyage! And, BTW, Happy, Happy Birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I think some of my apprehension is my typical agoraphobic self that dreads the week/days before a trip trying to get everything ready. Once I'm there, I'm usually very happy. Heck, it's an adventure, right? Plus, I have the added stress of MIL going who to quote her... "doesn't like big ships, doesn't like Carnival, can't sit in the sun, doesn't like massive amounts of people, isn't going to any of the dinners...etc. etc. etc." Actually it cracked me up. I said to her, "Why are you going then?" Her reply was. "Well, to be with you guys.". LOL Fortunately, she got herself a nice, big category 12 room so she can just sit and read and stuff on her own balcony. :cool:

You should get as much info as you can before sailing. Nothing could ruin a cruise faster than having to get out and push the ship to its next port.

I hate to say it but my MIL would be the same way! My first thought before you even typed it was "why is she even going?" You never know...she may meet up with a some folks that are around her age and party the night away! You can only hope, right??

The ship's stabilizers don't do much, if anything, unless a certain speed is maintained. Just like in your car, the steerling wheel is worthless unless you're moving. I could understand if the ship is barely moving at all that you'd get some rockin' and a rollin'. Same thing with an airplane too, if you're not moving forward the wings are pretty much useless.

The yanking could also be for "adolescent education"? Say a 12 day cruise in the Med - think you'd be bummed to miss that "history class"!

After he told me that they watched the 'movie' DodgeBall in Advanced English class, I figure 7 days in the Western Caribbean won't go wasted.. He rented it last night so we could see how 'dumb' it was..

You will have an awesome cruise I am sure. You have the incredible advantage of knowing ahead of time that there may be a change in itinerary. This will be the pervasive emotion of the cruise, just go with the flow.

Our Glory trip of last week turned ugly because we had no warning and felt deceived. I heard no bumps and bangings or trays smashing. I was in the Casino when the lights went out for less than 10 seconds. And I heard nobody yelling about losing money at the slots.

I hope Carnival does offer those of us who went through this some sort of compensation. I will cruise again, I just love it, but probably not on Carnival without a significant discount. And in the future I will not try not to count on the ports so much.
