Flying out of New Orleans at 4:30pm... what to do after debarkation?

We have quite a bit of time between debarkation and our flight out of MSY and are looking for something to do. I suppose we'll have our bags with us, so walking the streets and doing the normal sightseeing stuff is probably out. Is it possible to store bags someplace or have them transported to the airport somehow? Are there tours from the port that end up at the airport like there are at some of the ports in Florida? Should we consider renting a car for the afternoon basically to store our bags while we see the city? Any advice would be appreciated, we really don't want to sit at the airport for 5-6 hours...

  • 2 weeks later...

When we cruised out of New Orleans in Nov '09, we were in the same situation. After we disembarked, we found a company outside the terminal, on the other side of where they take the bags to be put on the ship, that will take your bags as well as give you a ride to the airport.

When you give them your bags, they will give you a bag check ticket and a card with a phone number to call when you are ready to be picked up. This allowed us to enjoy the afternoon doing some extra sightseeing and visting a few of the people in shops/restaurants we met during our pre-cruise stay.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the company or the cost. Hopefully they are still there.

I hope this helps.

HI there -

We're doing the same as you with a later flight out of MSY...

Talked to someone at the port who told me about their Kiosk just when you get out of the terminal - they'll take your luggage ($20-$25 per 4 bags) to the airport and store them in the baggage claim area. They DO NOT check them in to your airline for you like at some ports.

You'll need to get them from baggage claim before you check in with your airline.

here's the info from the Port's site:

Rush It Courier Service operates a baggage transfer service at the cruise terminals that will deliver your baggage from the terminal to the airport. This is a perfect service for those that have later flights and want to enjoy the sights of the City after the cruise and before departing for home. A great way to extend the vacation. We are also working on a system to deliver bags from the airport to the cruise terminal on arrival, to allow those early arrivals to start their vacations early. For more information and rates, call (504) 471-0080.

cheers,

Teresa
