WeBeCruisin2009 Posted January 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2011 Hey Everyone, My DH and I (both 27) will be aboard the Carnival Victory in April 2011. This will be our first time in Barbados. I have been researching a bit on the boards for excursion/beach ideas, but have not been able to come up with a definite plan for us. We both love the beach and look forward to relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather, scenery, and a few (or many) drinks ;) Has anyone been to Barbados recently and can offer their tips on the best way to spend the day??? Thanks! Amy
bluzchick Posted January 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2011 We wanted to go to a few beaches but our very friendly taxi driver informed us they would be very busy with all the ships in port. He took us to Payne's Bay. A gentleman met us across the street and led us between houses(sorta scary) and there was the beach(they are all public in Barbados). He asked what time we wanted to be picked up and got us two chairs for $14 US. We were ready to leave about twenty minutes early and the gentleman made sure to call our taxi driver who was too far away so he called someone else. This person had his two little girls in the taxi and had to drop them off at their grandma's house...cute. They had just gotten out of school. Both taxi drivers were informative and by far this was our favorite island. The locals were extremely friendly. Land alone beachfront in Barbados is $1mil and over...with no house!! The beach was fabulous, very calm, great snorkling, food and drink available, jet ski rentals(talk them down in price or only take them out for 10 minutes).....and bring sunscreen :D We want to go back here soon! WeBeCruisin2009 Posted January 17, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted January 17, 2011 Thanks so much for the info, bluzchick! Payne's Bay was on our list so I will def look into that beach a bit more... You'll just have to book another trip soon so you can get back to the beach! :) ~Amy
scottfay Posted January 17, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2011 We just returned from our cruise. In Barbados, we took a taxi to Payne's Bay. We had a fantastic time spending the day on the beach. The best feature, in my opinion, of this beach is that it's swimmable to see the sea turtles. Excursions come here by boat and have guides feeding the turtles. We just swam from the shore and then snorkled along with the various groups as they arrived in the bay. We saw lots of sea turtles and sting rays in addition to tons of fish. The swim out took about 10 minutes (I was pulling a 7 year old along and didn't have on fins because they could harm the sea turtles). You do need to watch out for the jet skis.
