Conquest stability question

Recommended Posts

Just booked Conquest for next April out of New Orleans to Freeport, Nasauu and Key West. We were on the Conquest in 2004 so I can't remember what level we were on. I just booked room 7351. I'm not wild about movement (don't get sick - just get concerned if it is rocking and rolling). Any experiences on that ship around that room and maybe the itinerary?

I've had a couple cabins on the Conquest's Empress Deck and never had an issue with the motion despite some pretty significant seas.

She's 110,000 gross tons and runs with her stabilizers deployed so there's not a great deal of motion but like any other seagoing vessel is the seas are angry she will tend to pitch about.

The stabilizers dampen roll (left to right...) but there's little to be done about pitching (bow and stern rising and falling...)

I'm sure you'll be fine...

I've been on the Lido deck, deck nine I think three times and never felt a thing. That itinerary is ok. Key West in nice, there is a lot to do right there when you get off the ship. Not much snorkeling. I was not too impressed with Freeport. In Nassau we took a water taxi for $5 to the Atlantis and did everything free to do there. Then walked to the beach. We ate at a cool bar on the beach. The water taxi was actually very interesting. It is a nice itinerary if you want a layed back vacation.

Your not going in hurricane season so you should have about a 95% or above chance of not running into any big weather to worry about.

Last year we were on the so called cruise to nowhere (end of Sept) had plenty of fun. The biggest amount of movement came from the wind hitting the ship broadside. When you consider it's 1,000 long and 100 feet high that's 100,000 s.f. of area for the wind to blow against. Stabilizers or not a 40 - 50 knot wind is going to cause some rolling.

I found that with just the right amount of tequilla, what would be staggering on dry land was in synch with the rolling of the ship and walking was normal.

There's always a work around for fun. :D

Thanks for the responses. I just realized that that is the week before Easter so may not be a good week. They don't have their schedule up for May of 2012 yet so I don't know if they will still go there (if we change).

Ah, the Empress deck on Conquest....The BEST Deck!

1) Cabins above you and cabins below you! No deck chair scraping, no theater music, no casino smoke.

2) Two stairs down to the Promenade, two stairs up to the Lido, you almost never have to take the elevators.

That being said, we're trying out the Lido cabins on 2/13. Lido and up, that's where the hoity-toity folk stay, right?
