Snorkel Outing St. Thomas

I've been reading the posts here and doing research. I need to ask for help now though. We will be in St. Thomas in April with Carnival. My husband & I like to snorkel. We would like to do a 1/2 day sail. There are, of course, the cruise line excursions, but we like to do our own thing, too. I see that there are 1/2 day sail options in St. THomas, but our ship doesn't dock until 9:00. It looks like just about all of the morning excursions leave at 9. The afternoon ones get back at 4.

If we did take one of these excursions, would getting back at 4 be ok for ship's departure at 6? I know that there are some that go right from Havensight. (sp?) Or at least pick up there.

I'm thinking of doing one of the ship excursions just so that I don't have to worry.

Thank you
