If you have sailed Oasis with walkie Talkies I need help?

I am sailing Oasis in 2 weeks with 3 other couples and my 2 sons ages 10 and 13. My 10 year old will not be left to roam but my 13 year old is going to be in the teen club and I can see us giving him a little freedom onboard as he is very responsible and trustworthy. Its other people I dont trust and so with a ship this big I need to be able to communicate. Current phones Royal had are out of commission for updates so I am looking into plan B. Walkie talkies. I have a set here I bought when I cruised Adventure and they dont work well at all on a ship. I need advice on a brand to buy, esp from those that had success on Oasis with a set.

We brought our Motorolas with us on the Oasis. The worked fine in most places, iffy on elevators though. We got them from Target for about $50 bucks if memory serves me. Enjoy the Oasis. It was an awesome ship!

I wonder if the motorola cell phones work if they are in two-way mode. My DH has one and his brother has one that we could borrow.

I could just be making this up because I know nothing about cell phones being in 2-way mode, but I'd be wary of that in case my phone ended up in some sort of crazy data mode and I got charged $$$ for it.
