Switch to Early Saver?

Can you make another type of reservation and then switch to early saver a couple week later? We will not have 100% confirmation on fall vacation dates until March 18, but want to go ahead and book to get specific cabins. If another fare type is available, like PG, could I make the reservation now under PG and then change to ES when the vacation dates are confirmed? I think a PVP told me I could do this once before, but in that case we were discussing switching the very next day (can't remember why and didn't really do it). I know you guys will know the answer!

Yes you can. I have done this a few times. If I am in a category I think will not sell out immediately then I will do it. That way I don't get locked into all the stipulations right away. Just be aware of when Early Saver fares disappear.

We booked a cruise that did not have the Early Saver rate available. Once we saw that the Early Saver rate was available I called Carnival and switched. We received a $60 rate deduction. The cruise is not paid for in full yet. It will be soon. Then we can hope for price drops to get OBC.

I'm in the process of doing that. Booked as Pass Guest but right now ES is $20 more then what I paid. Once it drops though, I'm switching over to get the rate guarantee. Just watch the rates before you switch. You don't want to end up paying more and then hope for a rate drop.
