vijoge Posted March 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2005 ;) There's been a lot of discussion lately about "the cabins at the back of the ship with the much larger balconies" so I just thought it might be a good time to clarify these terms for any newbies who might not know or understand the difference. AFT is toward the back of the ship. An aft cabin can face the left (port), the right (starboard) or the rear (stern). The ones facing the rear are the only ones which, on some ships, have larger balconies. On some ships this can be as few as a few extra feet, while on others the balcony is almost as big as the cabin itself.
markbuck Posted March 8, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2005 I've got a wrap around balcony for my Spirit cruise. The cabin is 245 sq ft and the balcony is 240 sq ft.
serene56 Posted March 8, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2005 ;) The ones facing the rear are the only ones which, on some ships, have larger balconies. . this is an untrue statment- if you look at the deck plans of any conquest class ship you will see the aft cabins on the side have a bigger balcony that the cabins across the aft have. (check out cabin 7434 which is an 8B) or check out the Spirit class ships and cabin # 6234 & 32 those balconies are very very long compared to the cabins across the aft

Dancinboots Posted March 9, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2005 We will be on the Star in 2 weeks in an aft cabin on deck 10 (10230) The balcony is 96 sq. ft. which is large than some of the penthouses and garden villas. Not all aft balconies are that large, only on deck 10 on the Star. The aft balcony on deck 9 for example is 56 sq. ft. Much quieter in the back and also a great view.We were on the Sun last year on deck 9 in an aft cabin and it was not as large as the one we have this year. I got the information on the size of the staterooms from the deck plans on the NCL website Vijoge The 2 aft cabins on deck 10 on the Star would be great choices for your upcoming Alaska Cruise (Either 10230 or 10730) Both have 96 sq. ft. balconies.:)

2psoki Posted March 11, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 11, 2005 We were on the Carnival Spirit end of May, 2004 with an Alaskan Cruise. We had an Aft Suite and a wrap around balcony. WHAT A TREAT! We woke up the first morning in the College Fjords with Glaciers surrounding us. We woke to mild banging on the side of the ship..........Small icebergs. You will LOVE the wrap around deck. It is huge and so worth it! Have a great cruise.

Some cabins have the seperate area for sitting and sleeping. Other cabins are all situated as one big cabin.
