Melbourn or Daytona post cruise?

We're going to have a day and a half after our cruise to spend on the beach and go to the Kennedy Space Center. It's myself, DH and our DD's ages 6 and 3. Which town would be better?

Either Melbourne Beach or nearby Indialantic Beaches would be preferable. I personally don't care for the "worlds most famous beach" because of the hard packed sand (i.e. not soft and comfortable) and the driving up & down by cars, SUVs and pickup trucks. To me, this is not relaxing to have cars driving by.

A better choice, which you did not ask about, would be Cocoa Beach. Cocoa Beach is closer to Titusville & KSC and offers a very nice family beach. A good place to visit would be Lori Wilson Park described and pictured here: http://www.beachhunter.net/cocoa-beach/lori-wilson-park.htm

We stayed in Melbourne and the surf was too rough for swimming because of an offshore reef. We couldn't use the beach at all for swimming. I wouldn't recommend it especially with young children. Daytona has a much gentler surf.
