castway port

The March 6 cruise did get into Castaway and it was an absolutely gorgeous day. Sunny, warm and light breeze. Water feels cool when you first get in, but warm air soon takes over and it felt fine. Feel sorry for sailings that miss this stop because it is one of the best parts of the cruise. Kids loved it, plenty of lounge chairs, umbrellas, food was good, but the pirate ship is no longer there.

The Magic was at CC on March 11. Made two attempts at docking before being successful the second time...wind. The wind continued to blow all day and most of the excursions were cancelled. I was disappointed to miss parasailing but the day was fantastic anyway. Wonderful resort-type beach. The staff from the ship comes ashore to provide services. I wondered how all those people could be served lunch at one location when there are three or four doing it on the ship, but three buffet lines at two locations took care of everyone and the food was delicious....hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs, grilled mahi-mahi, and all the "fixins". Best day of the cruise. We rented bikes for $6 an hour and rode the 4 1/2 miles of bike trail in about 50 minutes. They even rent bikes with training wheels!...but doubt if they can make the whole trail at their speed. No need to book ahead. I would suggest going to the second family beach to have access to the slide if you have kids who will want to slide.....there is a height limit but don't know what it is.

FYI - Wind is the biggest issue at Castaway. Given the location of the island, this is a frequent issue. They will make multiple attempts to dock until about noon, and if they can't, they go out and sail around. Once on the island, it's fantastic, but you can see beyond the walls that the sea is wind swept and rough.

For anyone headed on a DC, just be prepared that excursions at CC are often cancelled due to weather.

Been to CC three times, and one time the excursions were cancelled due to wind. Still had a blast. First time we got to go parasailing, it was awesome. Next trip we did the banana boat. Third time, parasailing was cancelled. Oh well.
