croozergrl Posted March 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2011 We will be in St. Thomas in May and are wondering which beach is the best for snorkeling? Have heard many different opinions on the boards so, what are the pros/cons of each? Thanks!
hpreece Posted March 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2011 My vote is Sapphire. It's less crowded than the usual recommendation of Magen's Bay.
Betsy's Mom Posted March 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Magens has little to no snorkeling. Try Secret Harbour for good snorkeling, good food, rental chairs, bathrooms.:) B.
jcumming Posted March 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2011 Magens has nothing but sand and Trunk Bay on St John often tends to be wavy and murky. Scratch those 2.
momthecruisedirector Posted March 16, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 16, 2011 We loved Coki Beach but it's been a couple years - it was beautiful. Next to Coral World.

Nice beach, private resort area. no vendors. we didn't see chair rentals we were told the chairs were for guests of the resort only we were just there 1st of MArch. Nice beach bar. Skip Coki it's going through a growing pain time. they are putting in a bath house. But, the beach itself was the most overcrowded we had been at all week. It's just not that big of an area. Trunk Bay was the cleares tof ever seen for water,w e easily saw 20 feet down, the beach was clean great bathhouse facilites, free showers, bathrooms. no venders on the beach. a little food shack and snorkel equipment rental. also chair rental. it was busy the day we were there but the beach is huge so no problem finding a little spot to call home. It can have a rough surf due to weather, you probably came in after some raininy days. I'm not a great swimmer and found it very easy to snorkel. Loved Trunk Bay. Other beaches on St' John sport different interests. I did not see any toys at this beach.
