First experience with Cunard

Can someone please help a novice? This is our first experience with Cunard and we are appalled at the chaos we've encountered since the first telephone call to make enquiries. No one in the choir seems to be singing from the same page!

Regardless, we made a booking back in March 2004 for the 11 July 2005 QM2 sailing from Southampton to New York. During the night last Friday we received an upgrade offer by e-mail from the Cunard website and called immediately on Saturday to ask about the offer. Part of our problem, we are sure, stems from the fact that we live in Europe but booked through the US office, in Miami at that time. In any case, we were told on Saturday that there were no such offers in their computer with the promo codes we were given and that the 'Yield Department' would have to be consulted on Monday and that we should call back at 7:00 am PST and ask for the same contact person. (Note that we were to call back because Cunard sales personnel "do not have the capability of making an international call to contact us." The very thought that this would be so leaves us utterly speechless! A world-famous international cruise line either is too cheap to make a phone call no matter where its customers are located or doesn't trust its staff to be responsible?!) In any case, it is now Wednesday of the next week and we still have no resolution to the question.

What should we do?

Many thanks

We are also on the 7/11 sailing and I would love to know about possible upgrades. I have signed up for SAILMAIL but have received nothing. Would an upgrade offer go to our TA? How does one know how bookings are going? When I look at the Cunrad web site, it seems most cabin levels are available for this cruise. We are ist timers on Cunard as well. Our other cruises have been on Royal Carribean and Radisson. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

All Info Will Go Thru Your T/a Including Your Documents Unless You Booked Direct With Cunard (which Is A Mistake, I Know Because I Did) !!! Usually Upgrades Are Given Within 2 Weeks Of Sailing And Some Times They Are Given At Time Of Boarding. There Doesnt Seem To Be A Pattern To Upgrades That I Know Of. I Know Some People That Have Sailed Cunard 10 Times And Never Got An Upgrade. I Also Have Met People That Recieved An Upgrade On Thier First Trip.?????? Enjoy Your Cruise!! Bon Voyage! CIAO BELLA

Your concerns are important to you, but, rest assured that once you are on the QM2 you will forget your problems of the past. The QM2 is absolutely fantastic. The service, food and entertainment our first class all the way. The ship is loaded with beautiful art work, etc.

We had nothing but a good experience when we were contacting Cunard directly.

RELAX, you will have a great time on the QM2.

Yes Jim, they're just holding off long enough to see which of the top suites they can sell before they give one to you. Of course when you are escorted aboard early on embarkation, you can say that we're part of your party and let us tag along.:D

Was this a comp upgrade or did you pay? Did you mean $1000 savings off the rates but still paid something, or was your upgrade worth $1000 and complimentary?

Chuck & Phyllis - in March 0f 2004 we booked double occupancy for July 2005 in an inside stateroom. The upgrade offer was to a partially obstructed view B-6 balcony room on deck 8 at a rate $500 per person lower than the inside stateroom, literally saving us $1000.

Jerry Your Right Thanx For The Good Advice.

We were in P1 and got upgraded to Q5. What a surprise for my wife's birthday which was on St. Valentine's Day.

NO explanation was given, and, I didn't ask.

Just thanked them.

Sohj57,

I guess that was an advantage of booking with Cunard directly. My TA is 'working on it'... sigh!
