Settling your bill at the end of your stay...

What is the best way of settling your bill at the end of your stay?

Having never cruised before I am worried about budgeting for our spending and ideally would like to put some money aside to do this.

I think I read someone said you can settle the bill by traveller's cheques, I was thinking of buying some to be able to do this rather than get charged by using my credit card.

Also is your bill settled in British Pounds or US Dollars?

We are going on the Grandeur of the seas, 8th May from Palma, Majorca.

Thank you,

I have managed to find some information...... however I still want to know what currency the bill is settled in? x

Do you accept personal cheques, traveller's cheques and foreign currency?s.gifA: The shops, lounges, shore excursions and Spa operate on a cashless system, therefore guests must use the SeaPass card when purchasing beverages and services throughout the ship. The card can be activated at check-in with a Visa, Master Card or American Express credit card. Accounts can also be settled by cash or traveller's cheques. Personal cheques cannot be used to settle an onboard account at the end of the cruise. Most major foreign currencies can be exchanged for US dollars on board. Please contact us for further information.

A Guest may cash one cheque per cruise as follows:

  • One unguaranteed cheque of up to USD 200.00.
  • Only cheques written in US dollars which are drawn against a US bank can be accepted.
  • Guests can no longer cash a personal cheque at the Casino cash desk; they can only do this at the Guest Relations or Guest Services Desk.
  • Guests can only cash one personal cheque per bank account per cruise.

Foreign Currency and Traveller's Cheques:

  • Guests cannot exchange more than USD 1000 in traveller's cheques and foreign currency per day.
  • Guests can only exchange foreign currency and traveller's cheques for cash at the Guest Relations or Guest Services Desk.
  • Guests can only exchange foreign currency and traveller's cheques for chips and tokens in the Casino.

ATM Withdrawal:

The following cards (debit or credit) can be used to withdraw cash from the onboard ATM: Visa (Plus), MasterCard (Cirrus, Maestro), American Express, Pulse, NYCE, Discover/Novus, Quest. Most ships have an ATM available in the Casino and by the Guest Relations Desk.

All Royal Caribbean ships work in dollars for the onboard account.

If you are paying by credit card you can select when doing your online check in -Set Sail Pass, .... option B for your credit card to do the exchange to pounds rather than RCCL.

If you have dollars with you, you can at any time during the cruise go to Guest Services and ask for the dollars to go onto your onboard account.

You can set up a Cash account...again this will be settled in dollars.

Greetings

All onboard spend is settled in US$ I have found the best way to settle our account is with a pre-paid Travelex Currency card. There are several on offer in the UK and rates are very good. We load our card with what we expect to spend (never enough) and use the card on the last day of the cruise to clear most of the account. RCI don't accept the card to set up account but will to pay it during the cruise. We leave the Amex card to pay anything left.

I like the pre-paid cards because we have no credit card bill when we return home and are accepted everywhere credit cards are. Reloads can be done online quite easily and if the card is lost it can be cancelled immediately and they even give you a spare card with a different number just in case.

Pre-paid cards are available in Euros as well and it is safer than carrying credit card around.

Hope this helps

Hi Pete & Carol

I work in foreign exchange and we sell the Travelex Cash Passport card here. I was told by Travelex that cruiselines will not accept this card to settle the bill though. So now I am a little confused about this :(

I reckon I am going to now email them and tell them I've been told you can use it.

Have you used the US Dollar travelex card to pay your bill at the end of your stay?

I am now thinking this would be a better idea for me to get instead of cash/traveller's cheques.

If you do decide to use a credit card as guarantee and then settle with cash (traveller check) ..... do NOT wait until the last morning (debarkation). The lines at the front desk are KILLER!

Stop by the night before, pay the balance ...... round up for a few cocktails :D :D if you want to, and let a small balance go on the credit card!

Good tip.... thanks for that hun :D

Nothing worse than having to wait in long queues. x

I used my Travelex card on the Adventure in November 2010. Went to Guest Relations around 2pm on the last day and cleared the account. Had about $40 go onto the Amex card afterwards.

I believe the confusion is that cruiselines (only know about RCI myself) will not accept the prepaid card to set up an account but will accept it to pay account during cruise.
