Dream family of 5 Concierge suite or not? ALSO SMOKING!

Can anyone give me the lowdown on whether or not to book concierge level on the Dream? We are a family of 5. Kids age 13, 10, and 7. (very small for thier age, seriously 10yr old weighs 48lbs)

We are trying to decide if we want to do a cruise at all and just started looking at Disney today (only cruise we'd consider with our kids, we've done NCL and Carnival)

Also SMOKING!

I know this is an issue that is largely discussed with verandah rooms....but I have asthma and my DD has severe smoke allergies (her eyes will literally swell shut..) This is something that really concerned us about taking the kids on a cruise after sailing with NCL and definatly after sailing with CCL....I know its a hit or miss situation but is Disney at least a little more restrictive with smoking and making sure people only smoke in designated areas...

We did a concierge suite on Magic two years ago, and it was wonderful! We were spoiled rotten by the experience. The onboard concierges were available to us 24x7 and were able to pull off a few "miracles" for us. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Not sure what you're saying/asking about "SMOKING" ??

Thank you, Sorry about the smoking, I hit enter prematurely and got distracted by a housefull of 7yr old boys...I finished/edited it :)

Been there, done that... understandable. :D

Here's DCL's official smoking policy, from their website:

Disney Cruise Line has never allowed smoking in Guest staterooms. In addition, smoking is prohibited in all interior spaces throughout our ships. However, private verandahs and starboard-side open-air decks 9 and 10 of the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder (excluding the Mickey Pool area) and deck 12 of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy have been designated as smoking areas in an effort to provide a cruise experience that satisfies both our non-smoking and smoking Guests. On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, smoking is permitted on the outside deck of Meridian, located on Deck 12, Aft. For all ships, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., smoking is also allowed on the starboard side of Deck 4. The remaining hours are dedicated to those wishing to jog or walk along the Promenade.

Guests who are found smoking in their staterooms will be charged a $250 stateroom recovery fee. This fee covers deep cleaning that includes air filter replacement, carpet extraction and the cleaning and replacement of drapes, comforters, blankets and pillows.

of the ships I have been on, I find that Disney is the least annoying when it comes to smoking. I think a lot of it has to to with no casino. My DH and I have had to leave a casino that we were enjoing because our eyes were burning so bad. I have never had that problem on the Disney ships at all.

Only once was there a family sitting on the no smoking section of the pool (which is most of it). I was just about of ask them to please leave when spots in the smoking section opened up and they left.

Disney is the most "smoke free" cruise line we have been on.

Disney allows smoking on all stateroom verandahs, so if you book a cabin with a verandah there is a chance you could have neighbors who use their verandahs for smoking. Unfortunately, it can blow over to your verandah or even into your room if the doors are open.

Guess it just depends on your neighbors. We were on Disney Magic last week and had verandah. We had the "pleasure" of a cigar smoker on one side of us and it simply ruined the whole idea of having a verandah. You could even smell the lingering smoke the following morning. So much for paying the extra $$ and putting up with that! Sorry to say but when you are paying the extra for verandah I think Disney should take the lead and ban ALL smoing in rooms and verandah and create a outdoor space for smokers higher up and away from rooms and verandahs :(
