gambler Posted May 13, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Does anyone know the best and cheapest way to phone home from here? I do not think cell phones will work. kmloder Posted May 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2004 Usally we buy pre-paid calling cards at Sams or Costco, that way you do not pay extra fees. You may get only 10 minutes or less on an hour card, but aleast there aren't any surprise bills when you get home. Credit cards and regular phone cards can be really expensive. I learned that the hard way!

gtaylor Posted May 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2004 gambler; We use the Sam's Club/AT&T cards when we're on the island. There are specific AT&T phones available at Bobby's Marina, which is one of the water taxi stops, or is about halfway to town if you walk. The rate to the US or the UK is about 15 minutes off the card for each minute of the call. Works out to about $.45/minute. DO NOT use the Blue International Call phones that you charge to your credit card. We have heard of people being charged as much as $80 for a 10 minute call. _____ We must sail, sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it -- but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.
