turtle tavern Posted June 2, 2011 #202 Share Posted June 2, 2011 If you want to sign up for the ship tour sign up right when you get on the ship, it seems sometimes it is first people who sign up get it, while other times it is a lottery. I also loved the tip that showed us how to get on top of the bridge at sail away. We sailed out of New York and going under the bridge there were only 3 people were I was and about 200 people behind me with their faces pressed to the glass. :p Thanks for all the tips, I am adding to my list, no current cruise booked but I hope to do another soon, using my deposit I made on the last cruise of course. How do you get on top of the bridge for sail away? I think that this would be a great spot, if not too crowded, for my family to hang out together before we re-join our group :-)

I think that this would be a great spot, if not too crowded, for my family to hang out together before we re-join our group :-) On the CARIBBEAN PRINCESS...you go all the way forward on the LIDO deck on either the starboard or the port hallways. There is a door...go through the door and there are some stairs that will lead you to the top of the bridge. Sometimes these doors will be locked when they do not want anyonme up there. But, beware...if it is windy or if the ship is going a full speed, it is not a fun place to be. The wind is so strong at times that any caps, earrings, or loose articles of clothing will just just be swept away. Here is a picture of us when there. cbpanda Posted June 2, 2011 #206 Share Posted June 2, 2011 This time, I just took a small battery operated/flameless candle (120+ hours) that I bought at the Dollar Tree and set it on the sink counter. It worked well, never ran out of juice, and gave just enough light as to not completely wake us up on our late night trip! :p This is what I bring....small battery operated candles. Works perfectly and safely.
Maraprince Posted June 2, 2011 #207 Share Posted June 2, 2011 Put the wastepaper basket or a small hand carry piece of luggage between the door and the bathroom. It will keep the door barely open to allow enough light into the cabin so you can make your way safely in the night if necessary. Maraprince Posted June 2, 2011 #208 Share Posted June 2, 2011 Question.... Somewhere in the Princess threads it was mentioned that there is a car service that Princess recommends in the NY area. The name is Black Car or Black Limo or something similar. Can anyone help me here? Thanks. MARAPRINCE

MARAPRINCE I leave the robe hanging on the bathroom hook and put a sleeve in between the door and doorframe. Holds it open nicely. Those doors don't really "swing" freely, so I have never had a problem during rough seas with door going closed.

There will probably be some disruption to a cruise or cruises prior to the drydock and I wouldn’t want to be on the first post drydock cruise. Note that the Sapphire was originally scheduled for 21 days but the January 28 cruise has been cancelled to make it 28 days – things change
nschamp Posted June 3, 2011 #212 Share Posted June 3, 2011 The supposedly secret doors on Lido deck get mentioned alot but I don't think anyone has mentioned the doors on the forward part of Emerald deck that lead out to the upper Promenade. They don't show on the Deck Plans and I stayed in that area on a number of cruises before finding them. If you are in the forward section of Emerald deck they are a great quick access to outside during the day. They have a very high sill. A word of caution here. Those railings are seldom cleaned and are caked with salt. Leaning on them with bare forearms can cause a really good burn. Been there done that. :)

Grannycb Posted June 3, 2011 #214 Share Posted June 3, 2011 To clarify...camera will erase the card? Yes. I carried a my Lumix camera, tissue, and the key card together in a small bag. After the second time the card stopped working the customer service people told me the camera battery was doing it. I separated the card from the camera and no longer had problems. 6pack Posted June 3, 2011 #216 Share Posted June 3, 2011 I wouldn't expect any issues prior to, however the first cruise out after dry dock could experience some bumps as the Grand recently experienced

ibfern Posted June 4, 2011 #218 Share Posted June 4, 2011 Buy only one soda card. Use it for both of you. Go to different bars. You actually don't have to sneak around here, the card is meant to be punched out when you buy premium coffee and tea drinks and nobody has even said a word to us when we get two coffee's (just brewed) on one card. Another hot tip: in the International cafe they have good brewed ice tea, much better than on the rest of the ship, and its also free with the card! I know someone that was on the Caribbean Princess a few years back when they did her refurb and added the International Cafe and updated the casino. Thery said they started taking equipment out of the casino and there was limnited machines/play tables

The coffee card is a punch card so multiple punches is not an issue, the soda card is a sticker on your cruise card and is intended to be used only by the purchaser (for unlimited fountain sodas). Some do 'cheat' the system by doing what was suggested in the 'tip' but it is cheating to most of us.

suzski Posted June 13, 2011 #222 Share Posted June 13, 2011 Something we were unaware of on our first Princess cruise was that we could purchase a photo book (which is through Panraven). You get a choice of three options: 1) Use only your photos 2) A book with all stock photos from pro photographers 3) Use your photos and the professional photos that you bought They have a few ship photos, maps, and Island shots in a stock photo section, available for those hard to get angles. We didn't take advantage of this before (like I said, found out about it after the cruise), but will definitely be utilizing it for our upcoming cruise.
