Yes- we were there last year. An incredible place- but SOOOO much to see - by the time we got to the Pacific side - I was on overload. There is so much- video displays and reading of stories ect- but your grandson would probably move thru it quicker than we did. Very cool planes/ boats on display. I don't recall anything too graphic that your grandson should avoid.

My vote is worth it!

You will be sorry if you miss it! Awesome displays of equipment and gear, if you go check the info desk for when they start the guided tours. The older gent who was our tour guide last spring for a tour of the museum was terrific! The guide took us around the “War in Europe” display part of the WWII Museum building. There is also a part of the museum that deals with the "War in the Pacific". This could be toured with another guide at a different time. My son was 14 years old last spring and is very tall for his age - 6' 1" and the guide used him to help our group understand how young and innocent the average American solder was during the start of WWII and how their growing up and experiences during this war helped shape what America became after the war. Terrific time my wife, I and our son had! Truly awesome displays, but if you can join one of the guided tours you will learn a lot more and get a better feel for what our country was during the late 1930’s and early 1940’s with the narration of the tour guides.

Also across the street they have a big WWII movie screen show about this war narrated by Tom Hanks. This is not to missed either. Almost like a show you would find at Disney World. First you gather in a large dark room for a short documentary about how America was drawn into WWII. This part was just OK. But after about 15 min. the lights come up and you are escorted into a larger theater room for the main show reported by Tom Hanks. Really, really good movie! I will not spoil the surprise but I highly recommend you coordinate both the time in the WWII museum with the movie across the street. They will sell you tickets for both in the WWII Museum. BTW there is no charge to join one of the tours. There is a small gift shop and a snack bar to grab a coffee or light refreshments. The whole shebang can be done easily in a half day. Not too big not too small. First class outfit!

We went last year--wonderful museum!! You must see the museum AND movie. My only issue is that some of the rooms are small and it was quite crowded when we were there so it was difficult at times trying to read some of the displays.

Coupon on neworleanscoupons.com and I think they take aaa and aarp also---whichever is best.

We were just in NOLA after sailing the Spirit and went to this museum. We were there about 6 hours including movie time (not to be missed).

I could have gone thru much quicker but DH loved listening to each of the individual stories they have recorded. They are interesting. I learned even more about WWII that day.

We went to the museum in February. Actually - visiting the WWII museum was the reason we chose to sail on the Spirit. The museum is amazing - we spent 7 hours there - with a quick lunch at the American Sector (you can make reservations ahead of time at OpenTable).

You do have to pace yourself - if you want to watch all the videos and read everything - you may not make it through.

Different from most of the above posters - we were disappointed witht the movie Beyond All Boundaries. Having watched Band of Brothers, The Pacific & of course Saving Private Ryan - we felt the movie was not worth the time.

It is well worth it. You might even consider a membership - I joined. Also bought a brick for my father. I am sure it is installed by now, so next visit need to find. The museum continues to add on. The website lists the upcoming events and lots more of interest.

The museum was originally called the D-Day museum, but has grown well beyond that.

Here are some pictures from one visit:

I brought my mother on that trip - she's also a WWII veteran and was moved to a tear or two on occasion - it brought back so many memories.
