Canary Islands (Feb) on Independance

Recommended Posts

Hi Guy's..

We are looking at doing the Canary Islands cruise which departs from Southampton in February on Independance of the Seas.

We were wondering if anyone has done this and could answer a few questions ?

1) How long into the cruise does the weather start getting resonable ?

2) Is the crossing rough given that it is depest winter ?

3) Is the cruise a reasonable itinerary, did you enjoy it ?

4) How is Independace of the Seas, looks nice ?

5) Been reading about high RCL service charges and tips, did this deter you ?

We have always wanted to go to Maderia, so it looks like a reasonable choice.

We having been on many cruises with P&O and Costa, but never with RCL, so we do know a bit about cruising.

Any information will be greatfully recieved.

The first few days are likely to be cold sailing out of UK. It probably won't warm up until you get to the Canaries and/or Madeira.

The roughness of the seas is impossible to say.

What is your itinerary?

This is very good to know. I depart this Friday for London and sail on the Independence of the Seas on 4 May from Southampton.

We just did that cruise in March this year and were very pleased with the weather. When the ship arrived in Lisbon it was much warmer and we had 24degrees with unbroken sunshine in the Canaries. The sea was calm we never noticed the B of B at all which was what I was worried about. The ship is beautiful and kept very clean by very hard working staff and the shows were excellent. We enjoyed it so much we have booked again for April 12. Give it a go you will enjoy it.

The OP was talking about February. There is a massive difference between February and May in the UK. May can be pleasant but February never is.

Suggest you look at the shipping forecast from the met office running up to your 4th May cruise. It isnt too bad just now, the northerly part hitting six, while the southern part of the bay hitting 3.

Have a look at 1200 every day before hand to give you an idea

:)

We took the Independence to South Hampton in April. I have heard from people that came the other way and the weather across was fine. We love the Independence. The Canary Island should have nice weather.
