SunFunCruiser Posted May 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2011 Coming by train after a few days in London, stopping for 2 nights in Salisbury. Want to visit Stonhendge. Any suggestions on a nice hotel convenient to the train as well. Coming by train and leaving by train to the port afterwards.
Rare John Bull Posted May 17, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2011 Not sure there are any hotels close to the rail station, which is on the edge of the city centre, a walk of ten minutes plus. Guess your best bet is a hotel in the city centre, handy to the cathedral, Poultry Cross etc. Treat Blue Boar Row as the epicentre. The New Inn is probably closest to the station, the White Hart is the best-known city hotel, the Red Lion & the Cathedral Hotel are also well-regarded and all are very convenient to the city & cathedral. All are historic buildings, befitting the character of the city, and I don't think there's a modern hotel anywhere near the city centre. The Stonehenge ho-ho bus http://www.thestonehengetour.info/ picks up at the bus station in the city centre, then at the rail station. It goes past Old Sarum, on the city boundary - check it out from the bus & decide whether you want to stop off on the way back. John Bull :)
