kcbarker Posted May 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2011 We will be sailing on the Crown Princess taking the British Isles cruise. The day before we sail we will be staying at a B&B in Hythe. The day we sail we would like to visit Stonehenge. Is there a place in Southampton that will store our luggage until we get back from Stonehenge? Or what is the earliest time we can turn our luggage into Princess?
Rare John Bull Posted May 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2011 How are you planning to go from Hythe to Stonehenge, and back to Southampton? If by public transport, your best bet is to take the Hythe Ferry to Southampton Town Quay, then a short walk to the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, which stores loggage for non-residents for about £5 per item. Then continue walking the same direction 10 - 15 mins to Southampton central rail station for the train to Salisbury, half-hourly service, journey time about 30 mins. The Stonehenge ho-ho bus (half-hourly service in summer) calls at Salisbury rail station. When you return, probably best to take a cab from Southampton rail station to your ship, stopping on the way to collect your luggage. If you travel direct from Hythe to Salisbury (& I've no idea how you can do that except by car), you can store luggage at the pub (forgotten its name) on the corner of the station approach in Salisbury, & retrieve it before catching the train to Southampton. Grand Princess usually docks at Ocean Terminal, berth 46, (via dock gate 4), but sometimes at Mayflower terminal, berth 106 (via dock gate 8 or 10). With luggage you're best to take a taxi from any point in the city. Sorry, don't know how early you can drop luggage at the quay. If you can do that first, you'll need a taxi from Town Quay to the ship & again to the rail station. Cruise ship schedule at http://southamptonvts.co.uk/cruise_ship.asp to check your berth. Then click the "port maps" header on that page & expand the top left "port plan". It shows the berths, dock gates, town quay, central rail station, etc. Grand Harbour hotel is on West Quay Road, near the roundabout with the dock gate 8 approach road. Hythe ferry details http://www.hytheferry.co.uk/ As the ferry rounds the stern of Crown Princess, I guess you could try throwing your luggage onto the deck :D Train times/prices at http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search Don't bother to buy in advance, ask at the station for cheap day-returns. Stonehenge bus details at http://www.thestonehengetour.info/ Try to find some time for Salisbury city centre, super laid-back historic city, iconic cathedral. :) De Vere Grand Harbour http://www.devere.co.uk/our-locations/grand-harbour.html Worth e-mailing just to confirm that they still store luggage for non-residents.
