Sky Suite 6146 and Land Tours

I need some help.

Good luck has given me an opportunity to book Sky Suite 6146 - next to the Penthouse Suite - on the Southbound Summit.

However, I haven't yet booked my final reservation. I need more information first. I know that this is a larger Sky Suite than most, but I vaguely remember hearing some negative comments about it.

Can someone please give me more information on both the Pros and Cons of booking this particular suite?

Although I'm leaving for a 2 week land trip to the Grand Canyon & Sedona next week, getting the sudden chance to book this suite on the Summit for Alaska in June almost seems too good to miss. Should I go for it? The sail date is June 10 and not that far away.

In your opinions (or based on experience) will this a suite that should be enjoyable? I've heard that there can be noise issues involved. My February trip on the Millennium was in a Sky Suite, and I loved it. Is Suite 6146 really a better cabin than the Standard Sky Suites???

Also, since this cabin is not being offered to me as part of a Cruise Tour, how would I go about arranging for the land part of my trip to Denali, etc before starting the cruise?

Any information about Cabin 6146 would be greatly appreciate. So would information about how to handle the land touring before the cruise.

Thank you.

It's the best Sky Suite on the ship by far. I would grab it!

Regarding the land tour, I highly recommend planning taking at least 5 days before the cruise. Before is better because it gives you time to adjust to the time change.

It's not as daunting as you might think. All you need is a good guide book and a rental car. We spent the first night in Anchorage, then drove inland to Denali, with great stops along the way and back. The cruise was great, but some of the best memories are from the road trip.

Check out the Alaska section of the Ports of Call board for great tips on planning your own land tour.

I have suite 6145 booked for next year on the Summit (same exact room as there are only 2 SS like this 6145 & 6146), after some research, the only negative thing I have read is that you may hear the piano playing in the penthouse suite, if the guests are playing the piano, and is a rare occurrance. Since the PH suite is so large, it is not very likely you will hear anything else from there. Other than that the SS 6145 and 6146 have a huge bathroom, which has a seperate shower and jacuzzi tub and 2 sinks, the cabin decor is upgraded to match the penthouse suite and the room itself it 30% larger than other SS. The balcony is huge too, I think it is 190 sq ft, not sure. There is no sliding glass door that leads out to the balcony but a glass stateroom door, which I have read is not a big deal and does not make the room dark.

My advice - grab it!

I was in sky suite 6145 on the constellation for two weeks on a transatlantic crossing. It is the best sky suite hands down...the bathroom alone is worth it, but I did not have a jacuzzi, just a plain tub, and a beautiful glass walk in shower. Marble floors and walls, double sink, it was wonderful. The one door leading to the teakwood balcony was not a problem in fact I liked it better then the regular sliding glass doors, less troublesome, just open and close, no doors sliding back and forth should you forget to close it tight, all electric shades and draperies on the door I loved this sky suite...the noise was not an issue, however.....it has a smaller closet then the other sky suites and it was a tight fit to get all our clothes in there for a two week cruise, we did manage. The closet was the only downfall in the suite, otherwise it is wonderful.

Photogirl...
If you do go on this cruise, would you mind taking pics of the cabin and posting them? I would love to see what the bathroom, room and balcony look like. I enjoyed your posts, reviews and pics from your last cruise. We are going on the Summit Northbound in July 2005 (in 6145). I have scoured the internet and could not find pics anywhere. I would really appreciate it

We just had SS6146 on the Summit during a 10 day Caribbean cruise in early April. The room was terrific overall and I would book it again in a heart beat; however, not all is wonderful. First of all, since there's a door between this suite and the Penthouse, you hear every bit of conversation or other noise from that room (yes, including the player piano which would be lovely if not for the fact that the occupants on this cruise were up at the crack of dawn playing it). Also, they appeared to enjoy having the doors to the balcony open which sucked out all the air conditioning from our room (through the bottom of the connecting doors). Our AC could not keep up. After calling Engineering a couple of times to no avail, I placed towels under the door and that helped a great deal. I agree with the comments about the closet. Smaller than the one in a friend's concierge class stateroom. There were only two of us, and hanging room was very tight. Last couple of minor gripes....we could not keep the shower door closed while at sea (even when seas were not rough), and when the ship is at full speed, there are strong vibrations in the room (I actually do not mind this, but I know some people do not like it). All that said, the decor is exquisite, the bathroom is huge and absolutely gorgeous, the suite is much larger than the other Sky Suites, and the balcony is great! I hope that helps

 • 2 weeks later...
Before I was able to read everyone's responses to my question, I had to leave for the Grand Canyon. However before I left, I did book 6146 on the Summit. The idea of this cabin just seemed too good to not take. Now, I'm really looking forward to the trip to Alaska in June. Thank you everyone who took time out to answer my question about this Sky Suite.

It sounds like the cabin could be a mixed bag of good and not so good; with the good outweighing the bad. However, excess noise and lack of air conditioning could be serious concerns for me. I'll let you all know how things turn out. Thank you, rolando, for giving me the hint concerning towels under the connecting door; just in case the a/c does have a problem. Hopefully, on an Alaskan cruise, I won't have to worry about the a/c. And hopefully, I'll have quiet neighbors in the Penthouse Suite who aren't piano addicted. Maybe luck with be with me on both these concerns. I have my fingers crossed.

It's good to know about the smaller closet space in advance. This way I won't be shocked and disappointed when I get on board. Is it at least a walk in closet like the other Sky Suites?

Kathleen, I definitely plan to take lots and lots of photos and will be posting a mini gallery of the suite when I get home.

Tomorrow I start seriously planning the precruise land portion. As ecowen suggested, I'm taking an extra 5 days and renting a car. Hopefully, that will give me some wonderful photo opportunities. I'm so looking forward to Denali.

This has been a crazy week with getting home from one major trip and having to immediately start planning for leaving on another in about a month. At the moment, I don't know if I'm coming or going.

But all your responses to my question have been very helpful in getting me started toward my next trip to Alaska. Thank you.

Celebrity must love me. I'm relatively new to cruising, but this is my 3rd Celebrity Cruise within a year. Celebrity must be doing something right to keep me coming back so quickly. I sure hope this next cruise lives up to my great experiences on the first two.

Photogirl, I look forward to seeing your photos of this suite. We had 6145 booked on the Constellation but we were bumped from the cruise when the ship was chartered. I posted a question on cabins 6145 and 6146 and received a lot of positive feedback.

Please post your photos on www.geocities.com-mahdnc-Cabinpix.html. I had hoped to do so as so many have requested pictures of these two cabins. Hopefully I will be able to book this cabin again in the future. Have a great cruise!

That's not good news. Now, I'm really starting to wonder just how small the closet actually is. Hopefully, I won't have to let my camera equipment sit out in the middle of the room because of a storage space problem.

Let me clarify. The closet is not a walk-in closet. It is a regular side-by-side, with one side containing shelves and a small safe, and the other side dedicated for hanging stuff. We found the space for hanging clothes VERY limited compared to other cabins we've had (even non-suites). The shelves were plentyfull (in closet, around the TV, in the huge bathroom, etc). We typically share our room with a close friend, but there was no way the hanging space would have accommodated a third passenger in this suite. It was really tight for two. We wondered if Celebrity would provide a hanging rack to be placed in the foyer of the Suite should a third passenger be booked in the cabin......
