Robrph Posted March 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2005 Cruising on the Mercury in April and have a full day and night in LA. Interested in going to Universal Studios, but wondering about purchasing tickets ahead of time and not taking the ship's excursion. How far from the pier is Universal and are we to expect a long, expensive taxi ride? There are several outside companies doing LA tours (Rodeo Drive, celebrity homes, etc). Has anyone done any of these? We usually avoid ship's excursions, but in this case, taking into account traffic, would it make sense just to take the ship's trips? Thanks for your input? TrentS Posted March 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2005 Yes, I would recommend the ship's tour in that case. Universal City is a good hour from San Pedro IF there are no major traffic problems, and in L.A. well... There are almost always traffic problems! CruisingChick Posted March 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Hey Rob, you know Universal Studios is only open until 6:00 PM that day (the day we are in LA). The ship doesn't dock until 11:00 AM and the ship's excursion is slated at noon. So if it takes an hour from the ship to Universal that will get you there at 1:00 PM and then you will have to leave at 6:00 PM. We were thinking of doing this, but don't really want to spend $80/person - that's $240 for us and only have roughly 5 hours in the park. Usually when you visit these places you go at 8:00 AM and stay all day. Anyway, I think we have nixed the idea of going there and Disneyland. My son and I want to see the Hollywood sign and the Hollywood walk of fame, so I am desperately trying to find out if there's are tour we can book ourselves. Okay, talk to you later.
