Thomson Destiny Rome Epic Aug - places closed

Having booked a private tour, very similar to the Thomson shore excursion trip, the local company said its a shame you are coming to Rome at a time when half of Rome closes down as the locals take their vacation then?!

 

Apparently when Destiny docks in Rome on 15 Aug, the Vatican museum will be closed as will other places.

 

A call to Thomson Cruises was met with, 'well, so what'. They are still happy to advertise their shore excursions.

 

This is really just to let other travellers know that this is the situation. I would have like to have been informed about this closing down of attractions when i booked the cruise back in November, but Thomson didn't think it was worth mentioning, apparently.

15th August is Assumption Day. We were once in France on that date and there was absolutely nothing open!!! Worse than Christmas day over here!! We desperately needed petrol to get us back to the ferry port the following day and the only way to get it was from a (very) old bloke sat outside a petrol station, where he pumped the petrol for you and it was cash only paid upfront!!!

 

Would assume it's the same in Italy as well. - Sorry !
